Importance
This document provides lab configuration information for the VMware View 4: Install, Configure, Manage course Instructors should use this as a guide to setup their VDC classrooms for the View 4: ICM course Setup time should not be more than 20-30 minutes for a kit. A reference list of View 4 documents is also included

Instructor Must-do Steps (1)

The HoG will automatically insert the appropriate View and ThinApp licenses. However, if you have an unusual situation, want to use WegHoG, or just want to confirm the licenses go to: http://vatc.vmeduc.com/homepage/licenses.html If you need to replace an existing license in the configuration sheets use find-and-replace in Word.

Instructor Must-do Steps (2)

Stage the View and doPDF installation files to vc-kitname07:
Create a shared folder on the desktop named View-files Look at the last page of the HoG configuration sheets to learn which datacenter and NAS folder contain the install files. All View 4:ICM installation files are located at one of two datacenter addresses. All instructor domain user names have read access to both locations. Be sure to use the proper domain format: vmeduc\yourusername. The datacenter locations are: \\wdc-nas-a\vdcrepos\Classes\ViewICM4 \\osdc-nas-b\vdcrepos\Classes\ViewICM4 Copy all installation files, except View Client for Offline Desktop, from the View folder that is off the appropriate NAS address into the View-files folder. The students are directed to View-files folder for all View installation exercises. The View 4 files are build 210939; View Composer 2 is build 210930. Copy the doPDF install executable from the above folder to the View-files folder. Students will install doPDF during the Virtual Printing exercise. Verify that you can launch the installer. If there is a problem, download a new install file from www.dopdf.com and submit a ticket.

Instructor Must-do Steps (3)

Stage the ThinApp installation file to vc-kitname07:
Create a shared folder on the desktop named ThinApp-files The ThinApp installation file is located in the ThinApp folder off the appropriate datacenter NAS address shown on the previous slide. Copy the ThinApp 4.0.4 installation file (build 204871) to the shared ThinApp-files folder Copy the Firefox 3.5 installation file to the shared folder. Verify that you can launch the installer. If there is a problem, download a new install file from www.firefox.com and submit a ticket.

Instructor Must-do Steps (4)

Once the file shares are setup, disconnect the datacenter share. Join vc-kitname07 to the vmeduc.com domain.
View does not require the vCenter host system to be a member of the domain. Its required here because of the file shares. The students will be accessing the shared View-files and ThinApp-files folders from machines that are already joined to the domain. To use the install files from vc-kitname07 it must also be a member. The domain administrator credentials are the same as the Citrix user name and passwords: kitname01a through kitname07b. You assigned the password using the Bulk Password tool. Instructor credentials do not have the domain join permission; this permission is assigned to the Citrix student user names for the duration of the course.

Instructor Must-do Steps (5)

Stage the View 4 Client install file to the classroom for use in the security server exercise (Lab 14):
Download VMware-viewclient-4.0.0-210939.exe from vmware.com to the instructor workstation in the classroom. Create a share for students to access and install the client during Lab 14.

Instructor Checklist (1)

Optionally confirm the following:
ESX 4.0 U1 installed on student servers 1-7 (build 208167). The root/vmware login has been enabled on each server if you wish to use Putty and execute vmware v A Public port group has been defined on vSwitch1. Privnet should be on vSwitch0, which is where all VMs are attached. The specific vSwitch numbers dont matter as long as theyre connected to the right networks. vCenter Server 4.0 U1 (build 208156) is installed in all vCenter Server VMs on server08 and properly licensed. The vCenter Server build can be verified by launching the vSphere Client, then clicking Help > About.

Instructor Checklist (2)

Optionally confirm the following VMs are on each student ESX host
Three Windows 2003 SP2 VMs (configured for 512MB RAM, 6GB disk) named: cs-kitname0x rs-kitname0x sec-kitname0x Connection server Replica server Security server

Three Windows XP SP3 VMs (configured for 256MB RAM, 4GB disk) named: dt1-kitname0x cla-kitname0x cnb-kitname0x First desktop First client Capture and Build for ThinApp exercises

Instructor Checklist (3)

For View 4 lab exercises the XP VMs are 4GB (because they are SP3), so on the older kits there may not be enough local drive space for all the VMs that are created throughout the exercises. To avoid space exhaustion:
SharedTMPLs is used to store the desktop templates, one for each student host. SharedVMs is used for the template-based clones. This LUN is 100GB and can accommodate about 21 XP virtual machines. If the students follow the lab instructions, each team (i.e., each ESX host) should not have more than two template-based clones at any one time. Using SharedVMs has the side benefit of reducing the template cloning time. Local storage is used for the original seven VMs, the parent VM, the ptch VM, all replicas, and all linked clones.
