Read the textbook description of two types of pile foundation. Use the words and phrases in Exercise l5d and the following notes to rephrase it.
From a structural perspective, pile foundations can be divided into two categories: end-bearing piles and friction piles.

End-bearing piles are driven or bored through soft ground in order at\ the sea|beL to attain firm substrata below. The pile then transmits load vertically Like statrritg o\ to firm subsoil or bedrock. The soft ground surrounding the sides of stilts i\ warfev the pile is structurally redundant.
