2011 Slice of Columbus Fast Facts

Below is information to help you fully understand the guidelines and plan for the event.
LOCATION, DATE & TIME: o Huntington Park - Wednesday, September 21, 2011 o Event Hours: 5:00 PM 9:00 PM o Pizza Shop Arrival: 2:00 PM (Loading dock west side of building off of Huntington Park Lane) JUDGING GUIDELINES The Peoples Choice Award Voting process o 1 vote per person (each attendee will receive a voting card at entry gate) o Votes will be collected in designated collection boxes and tallied at 8:00 p.m. o The winning pizza shop will have the highest number of votes Judges Award (Judges Choice) Voting process o The judging panel consists of local celebrities and restaurant industry experts o Pizza will be evaluated on taste and appearance o Each panelist will submit 1 score per pizza o There are 4 tasting flights/heats in Round 1. In some instances, there can be a 5th. Times are: 5:45 pm, 6:00 pm, 6:15 pm, 6:30 pm (and 6:45 pm if needed) o The 5 pizzas that advance to Round 2 are determined by highest average scores o The pizza that earns the highest average score in Round 2 will be awarded 1st place honors Pizza Collection o All pizza shops will compete in Round 1 by submitting a 12 pizza cut into 10 slices o Shops will be notified of the judging schedule upon their arrival A member of the judging committee will provide a plain white box with your time slot on it (The first possible time slot is 5:45 pm) He/She will be back to pick up your pizza at that time Boxes will also have a letter that corresponds with a confidential list so that the committee knows which shop the pizza came from o All pizza shops will be asked to present a 12 pizza for Round 2 cut into 16 slices This pizza should be submitted in the white box provided marked 7:25 pm These pizzas will be picked up by volunteers at 7:25 p.m. Pizza shop requirements o All shops should prepare one (1) 12 pizza for the first round of judging cut into 10 slices o All shops should prepare one (1) 12 pizza for the second round of judging cut into 16 slices, but only 5 will be presented for judging, based on the results of first round judging o Pizzas may only consist of the following: Red sauce Up to 3 of the following toppings: Pepperoni, Ham, Bacon, Sausage, Mushrooms, Green Peppers, Black Olives, Onions, and/or Banana Peppers o Volunteers will take pizzas from the baking tent to the judges. Pizzas will be picked up at the time written on the box which is 5 minutes before the taste time. There are warmers in the judging area used for Round 2. Wags & Elliott This is awarded by our friends at QFM 96. Wags and Elliott make this selection.

LOGISTICS: o Suggested Pizza Preparation Quantity: 150 pizzas depending on pizza size RDP will provide product vouchers to offset some of the cost of ingredients Shrink wrap all pizzas; a cooler truck will be available for storage The type of pizzas given to the general public are up to the discretion of each shop Pizza should be cut to small bite size pieces due to the high volume of guests o Ovens We have deck and conveyor ovens ovens will be assigned on the day of event. We will do our best to accommodate your oven type request, but we cannot guarantee a particular type of oven. Ovens should be hot by 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday Bring your own tongs, pizza cutters and hot bags Volunteers will be at the turn-around to unload any delivered product o Pizza shop distribution area Pizza shops will be assigned locations in a lottery format A 6 table will be provided You may bring signage for the area behind the tables. Max width 5 Gloves are recommended for those who are serving your product Pizza should only be distributed from your designated booth/area o Extras You may bring menus and/or coupons to share with guests Parmesan and red pepper flakes may be offered to guests Extra paper plates and napkins are appreciated Certificates/coupons for free pizzas are not permitted Giveaway items (pens, frisbees, shirts, etc.) are not permitted If you are able to deliver during peak event times, please let us know o Charitable In-Kind Donation Form We ask that all participating pizza shops complete and return the in-kind donation form for charitable donation credit. This form helps our bottom line by providing us with the value of your participation. We do not submit and you are not required to submit this information to the IRS. However, you are welcome to submit to the IRS for charitable donation credit. o Staffing It is recommended to have 3 people with 1 alternate to staff your distribution area in addition to those staff cooking pizzas. 8 complimentary tickets are provided for your volunteers/staff of area EVENT EXPECTATIONS: o Last year, our attendance reached over 4,500. The crowd flow remained consistent throughout the night so be prepared for a BIG crowd. o We are requesting that all pizza shops serve pizza throughout the entire duration of the event. MANDATORY PIZZA SHOP MEETING: o A Pizza Shop Meeting with all participating shops will take place on August 10 at Nationwide Children's Hospital in the Ann Wolfe Education Building Room 131 from 2:00 3:00 p.m. You will receive a notice of this meeting when you have been confirmed as a participating pizza shop.
