As I sit here and reflect on all the courses in which the lecturers allowed us to host discussions in order to better understand the concepts being taught, I remember the personal development course called , Interpersonal Relationships. Persons may wonder what this course comprises of and my answer would be simple ; the people in our society and their interrelationships with each other. This course was not planning lessons or doing presentations. It was about holding discussions to better understand how we relate to each other as a society.

I firmly believe that this course was enlightening because as prospective teachers we need to know the types of relationships which exist in our society in order to handle them. Many people many say they already know these type of relationships but think about it, one person can be in a lot of relationships a woman may be a mother, sister, daughter , wife or cousin and thus she behaves differently in these relationships. In essence, knowing the types of relationships which exist will help me to become a better individual and help members of our society to better interact with each other.

During a particular class we did an activity in which we were required to write six things about men and women. I participated and I found that it was a

very enlightening experience due to the perceptions that I had internalized over a period of time about males and females. I have come to the realization that some men are good fathers while others are deadbeat. Additionally, that some women are wonderful mothers and caregivers but the others which exist, at times, make me want to renounce being a woman because of their disgusting behavior toward their children and men . My classmates contributed their opinions on the topic as well and my perceptions about some of them have changed .This activity was very good but as a result, I recognize that even with all our opinions about the sexes we both need each other to exist.

I believe educational pursuits is very important in our society. If an individual who was reared in a culture that promotes the value of education decides to establish a relationship with an individual who was raised in an opposite environment then conflicts will arise. As a result, the partners may begin to drift from each other and over time the relationship disintegrates. I have vowed to encourage my partner to strive for academic excellence and thus minimize the conflicts.

The course, Interpersonal Relationships may not suit everyone. But it should be taken seriously and not just another personal development course to

pass the time. It should be considered as a learning experience in order to help us better relate to the different relationships we are a part of in our society .
