A Ship Can you imagine paying a lot of money to sail on the biggest ship in the world, but then

it sinks and you are separated from your family? Well, you think its tough, right? Did you ever realize its true for some people? Do you know a ship with the same description? Think carefully if you havent thought of it. Heres a hint: its a very famous ship, and it was made in the 20th century. If you give up, or that you already know, then you should have the same answer: RMS Titanic! RMS in the RMS Titanic stands for The Royal Mail Steamer, Ship, or Steamship. In case youre wondering.

Accidents: Did you know: that the amount of builders it took to build RMS Titanic was approximately 11,300 men. 8 workers died, and over 240 accidents had happened. This was recorded by the company, Harland and Wolff.

This is a photograph of Joseph Bruce Ismay, the director of White Star Line, who ordered the 3 sister ships, Gigantic (later known as Britannic), Titanic, and Olympic.

Here is a picture of Captain Smith. He was the captain of Titanic, and would be retiring after this journey. Little did he know Titanic would not make it to New York and that he would go down with this unfortunate ship.

Important events: On July 31st, 1908; The contract was signed for the construction of RMS Titanic, with RMS Olympic and RMS Britannic (Before called Gigantic)(the sister ships). Titanic is the second of the ships to be built. On March 31, 1909; Construction! The Harland and Wolff company started to build Titanic. March 31, 1911; Construction was finished. It was finished exactly 2 years after it was started. April 10, 1912; All aboard! Captain Edward John Smith, crew and all 3,511 passengers came aboard on Titanic.

Before Titanic, a ship only had to have a certain number of lifeboats! Its didnt matter how many passengers there were!

So, have you realized how Titanic has changed the world? Heres a hint: take a peek at the title!! Why yes, Titanic changed the worlds thinking of safety. Even when the boat was sinking, a lot of people stayed in bed! So thats the way people thought of sea. They thought the ship wouldnt sink! After Titanic, there had to be enough lifeboats for everyone on the ship.
