Chaplain/Friar Focus
UNITY is sharing our lives and our dreams. The apostles gathered frequently to pray as a group, together with Mary the mother of Jesus and with his brothers. ~ Acts 1:14 A Chicago business man wrote about his years of sharing his faith in a group with seven other businessmen: I am in a faith-sharing group that meets every Saturday morning at seven. We have never yet missed a meeting. We share our insights and reflections from our daily meditations of the past week. As we grew together, we developed a lot of love, a lot of compassion. We have shared with each other more than our faith. We have shared our joys, our gains and worries, our dreams and our hopes. We have shared our lives There is nothing I would not do for the members of our group. I feel very blessed. Mark Link, S.J. Describe a similar unity you have experienced with your Brother Knights. If you cannot recall any such experiences, why not? No machine can replace the human spark: compassion, love and understanding. ~ Louis V. Gerstner, Jr.

GRAND KNIGHTS MESSAGE

Brother Knights, We start the New Year of 2012 and mid-point of our Fraternal Year with many projects underway. These include the Coats for Kids, Knowledge and Free Throw Contest, National Right to Life Day Observance, 4th/3rd Degree Pot luck and Corporate Communion in January and 2nd/3rd Degrees, Ladies Pot luck, Food for Families and Diocesan Knowledge/Free Throw contest in February. We also have ongoing projects such as the Ultrasound project, Bowling and Dartball, That Man Is You and Men of Christ, early preparations for the Tootsie Roll Drive, etc. I urge you to get involved in these and help with them all that you can! Remember that Jan. 22 is National KC Respect Life Day. We should have a big KC presence at events surrounding this day. (See Compass Article and your Parish bulletins!). The Rosary on January 26 preceding the Ladies and social meetings will honor the unborn! I strongly recommend that all 3rd Degree members who are not yet Sir Knights attend the Jan. 23pot luck at McGivney Hall (Ladies welcome.) We need more Honor Guard members; so I urge you to JOIN THE 4TH DEGREE! Note also that there is a 3rd Degree scheduled for Sat., Feb. 4th at Sacred Heart School of Theology in Franklin. All our 2nd Degree Knights who are not yet 3rd Degree need to plan to be there for this degree. Its time you complete your journey to full Knighthood. Contact Bill Wehnert or Jim Sisak for details! Thanks to all who attended the 697/1207 Christmas Party at Spinnakers. It was a superb time for all present! John/Julie Shelby did a fine job in preparing it. We continue in our efforts to update our Mission Statement, increase our membership, plan for Charity and general account fundraising efforts, increase our members involvement in our programs; and plan for the future of McGivney Hall and the proceeds from the sale of KC Hall. Plan to attend our January meeting for more information. Looking forward to a great 2012! Sincerely, Bill Wehnert, Grand Knight

For The Good of The Order

The Fall session of That Man is You! (TMIY), a faith formation program running at Father Michael J. McGivney Hall, is now complete. This program is run by Brother Knights, for Brother Knights and other men who might become Brother Knights! TMIY is a successful nationwide men's program that also has proven to be a good recruitment tool for new members of this council. As of this month, we have 19 new and 3 reinstated Knights from our men's faith formation efforts over the last 1-1/2 years. The Wisconsin State Council has endorsed this recruitment approach (see separate article in this Compass). This is a top-notch, professional program that is attractive to many Catholic men trying to grow in our Faith. This is an opportunity for Catholic Gentlemen to learn more about our Faith and to become positive role models within our parishes and communities. The Spring session starts January 8th in the evening or January 12th in the morning and will run for 13 weeks ending before Easter. Sign-up for the program at www.paradisusdei.org/tmiy or just stop by on a Sunday evening or Thursday morning to check it out. Bring a potential Knight with you! The developer of the program does not charge for it and requires that we do not charge either. Based on their experience, this approach is best for getting men into the program. -Worthy Lecturer Mike Benner

Vets Christmas Party

On Dec. 3, 2011, 7 members of the Knights of Columbus went to the Vets place in Union Grove to help celebrate Christmas with some of our veterans. As sponsors of this event, Assembly 1207 donated $200 to help with the cost of the party and gifts for the vets. It was a grand affair with singing of carols and a good selection of food and drink (no alcohol). The Vets and Staff at the home were happy to see us and thanked us hoping to see us next year. Knights that helped were John Clark, John Corvelyn, Gary Brown, Tom Goetz, Stan Fortuna, Cal Converse and Bob Sullivan.

Mens Faith Formation: A Potential Recruiting Tool?

A Mens Faith Formation resolution was proposed and adopted by the State K of C Resolution Committee and unanimously passed at the 107th Wisconsin State Knights of Columbus Convention in April 2008. In essence this resolution states the public support of the Men of Christ conferences being conducted in numerous locations across Wisconsin including Milwaukee and Green Bay. The resolution also encourages the development and support of Mens Faith Formation groups within K of C Councils. Some have already sprung up in the Madison and Milwaukee Diocese and Archdiocese, respectively. Councils supporting these specialized Faith Groups have found success in utilizing them as a means for recruiting Catholic Men of Faith or Catholic Gentlemen looking for an outlet to express and grow in the Catholic Faith. It is recommended that Councils, or potentially, groups of Councils (i.e. Districts?) look into organizing and actively participating and promoting these events. The results will be twofold: First, an opportunity as Knights of Columbus to grow in the Spirit of our Faith, and, second, to find other Catholic Gentlemen (or potential Catholic Gentlemen) who wish to join organizations that will encourage expression of our Catholic way-of-life.
