Registration Information
Walk-In & Online Registration for selected Spring Programs will begin on Wednesday, February 1st, at 8:30 am at the Recreation office located on 150 Emmons Street. For online registration, please visit our NEW website at: http://franklinma.virtualtownhall.net/Pages/FranklinMA_Recreation/index Please click on Program Registration and look for the link ONLINE REGISTRATION where you will be directed to a secure site. You can enter your information (Name, address, phone, email) as well as credit card information. Please make sure to provide a valid email address as this is how we communicate with participants. Recreation Department Policies All programs are offered on a first come, first serve basis. Franklin Recreation reserves the right to cancel or consolidate any program that does not meet the minimum participant registration numbers. Remember nothing terminates a program faster than waiting until the last minute to register. Avoid disappointment and register promptly. Programs will be cancelled should the program not meet the minimum participant requirements. Participants Responsibility We ask all participants to respect the staff, volunteers, coaches, other participants, age requirements, and the equipment we use. Additional rules will be announced at each program. If a participant fails to cooperate with the rules, the Director reserves the right to dismiss or suspend a participant in any program without a refund or fees returned. Franklin Recreation is not a day care, after-school care program or babysitting service. Please read and understand the policies. If they are unclear to you, please ask questions. All participants must pre-register and sign a waiver for ALL programs. The program coordinator on duty is solely responsible for the activities taking place. Children should not be left unattended in the building or at the fields at any time. Please be on time dropping off and picking up children from their programs. Failure to do so will result in additional cost, penalties or suspension from programming. Registration Registrations will be accepted until the program is full or 1 week prior to the start date. In some cases, registration will be accepted up to the start of the program. You may register for a program at the Old Town Hall, 150 Emmons Street, Monday-Friday. We now accept mail in registration by printing a copy of our waiver form, and sending a check with the registrants information. All Franklin and Medway residents will be given first opportunity to sign up for a program. If a particular program. sells out quickly, non-residents may not be allowed to register. Included on our website in the Program Registration area is the mail in registration forms which can be U.S. mailed into our office. Course Confirmation No confirmations are sent out!!!!! Please understand that it is your responsibility to know the date, time, and location of any program. A participant is registered only when payment is received, unless the department notifies you otherwise. We will only notify you if there are any problems or changes. Weather Cancellations When the Franklin School Department cancels school because of emergencies or weather conditions, all Recreation Department programming will be cancelled for the entire day. If a storm develops later in the day, please call the Recreation Departments weather line, 520-4909 ext. 2, or visit our website at http://franklinma.virtualtownhall.net/Pages/FranklinMA_Recreation/index Switching Programs If space allows and you wish to switch to another program, we will be happy to transfer you to that program. However, receipt numbers and participant information must be presented in person at the Recreation office. NEW Refund Policy
Refunds are only issued in the event of a cancelled program or if there is a medical emergency with a doctor's note. A $10 fee will be charged for all refunds.

Special Needs Children and adults with special needs are encouraged to participate in recreation programs. Staff members are sensitive to your needs and will do everything possible to assist you. If you are interested in participating in a program but are not sure about the facility, transportation, or wish to discuss program details, please call the Director of Recreation and ADA Coordinator, Ryan Jette, to ask about specifics. The Town of Franklin is working toward bringing all facilities into compliance with ADA guidelines. For a copy of our ADA Self Evaluation and Transition Plan, please see Ryan Jette (Director of Recreation & ADA Coordinator). Inability to Pay It is the policy of the Recreation Department that no resident of the Town shall be refused participation in a program, or the use of facilities because of inability to pay. Confidential applications can be made to the Director of Recreation, and if a hardship exists, the applicant may be granted a reduction in fee at the discretion of the Director. Please contact Ryan Jette in writing and include a copy of your most current 1040 tax form or a copy of a public assistance record. Report ALL household income!

February Vacation NHL Street Hockey Clinic


Age: 7-13 Fee: $25 Reg Date: Jan. 7 Location: FHS Field House Street hockey will be held for 2 hours at the Franklin High School over February Vacation. We will organize age appropriate drills for the first 30 minutes and then progress into games. We will provide all equipment including sticks, balls, goalie gear and nets. Make sure your son/daughter has a water bottle. Shin guards and helmets are not neccessary but optional. If you have them, wear them. Day Time Date M 11:00-1:00 P 2/20

Paintball Trip Friday


Age: 10-17 Fee: $40 Reg Date: Jan. 1 Location: Fox 4, Upton Ma Join the Recreation Department for an exciting day of Paintball adventure at Fox 4 in Upton. Players will be given a safety orientation and issued all needed equipment. The bus will depart from the Recreation Department at 9:00 am and will return at 4:00 pm. Kid Care Babysitting

This introductory babysitting class allows potential sitters the opportunity to learn about the business of babysitting. After 6 hours of training, you will receive a certification card and be put on our Call-A-Teen program list for possible babysitting jobs. Child care & wellness will be the focus with basic first aid and safety tips from Franklin Police & Fire, and a child care specialist. Open to kids aged 11-16 years old.

Baseball Spring Training Clinic


Age: 7-13 Fee: $40 Reg Date: Jan. 7 Location: FHS Field House Join Franklin High School baseball coach, Dave Niro, for a 2.5 hour instructional baseball clinic during February vacation. Coach Dave Niro will be joined by past & present Franklin baseball players and coaches. Timed stations include pitching, infield/outfield play, base running, and hitting drills. April Vacation Youth Golf Lessons


Age: 7-16 Fee: $50 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: New England Country Club Try our popular group golf lessons with head golf professional, Mark Copithorne, at the New England Country Club. These progressive lessons will cover putting, chipping, bunker play, irons, and woods. Mark brings along some of his top instructors to teach kids in a group setting. Introduction to Robotics
Age: 10 and up Fee: $100 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Franklin Recreation Department The Recreation Department is proud to offer Introduction to Robotics. The program includes instruction in robotic basics with demonstrations and hands on activities with real working robots that move about on their own, talk and perform a variety of tasks. Community Garden
Renewals: Beginning Wednesday, February 1st, gardeners who maintained a raised bed at the King Street Memorial Community Garden may begin to renew for the 2012 season. Gardeners have until Friday, March 2nd to complete the renewal application and submit payment.The season fee is $40 and is payable to The Town of Franklin. The application will be processed through the Franklin Recreation Department, 150 Emmons Street (Old Town Hall) Waitlist: The Community Garden Committee will also open a rolling waiting list for the garden beginning February 1st. Available gardens will be offered on a first come, first served basis and assignments will begin Monday, March 5th pending available space at the garden. Sign up for the waiting list at,

Youth Sports Pee Wee Baseball


Age: 4-6 Fee: $90 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Fletchers Field Pee Wee Fields This introductory league is designed to teach children 4-6 years old the fundamentals of baseball & softball in a fun, noncompetitive environment. This league will get kids ready for the Franklin Youth Baseball Rookie league or Franklin Girls Softball Assoc. by concentrating on hitting, base running, throwing, and fielding through timed stations and controlled games. The instructor is Mike Masseur. All players receive a team shirt and baseball hat. Cleats and baseball pants are not required. There will be a rotating schedule on Saturdays and Tuesdays for all ages this year. The schedule will be posted online and also sent to your email. Parade for all Pee Wee Baseball players will be held Saturday, April 21. Meet between 9:00-10:00 A at Davis Thayer School. Spring Basketball
Age: 8-14 Fee: $75 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Remington/Jefferson Courts Boys & girls, grades 3-8 can join our Sunday Spring Basketball League. This spring league will play half indoor, half outdoor games. League Coordinator Jim Edgehill will place the players on a team, and four teams will be established in each division. Games are played at Remington Jefferson indoor/outdoor courts. During inclement weather, both games will be played indoor. Girls On the Run


Age: 8-13 Fee: $85 Reg Date Feb. 1 Location: FHS Track This experiential learning program for 3rd-8th graders combines self esteem enhancing, uplifting warm ups and workouts that encourage emotional, social, mental, spiritual, and physical development. Girls will train for 8 weeks, while taking part in team building activities. This is not an exclusive track program, although running will be the emphasis. The instructor is Joanne Laliberte. Run For Your Life


Age: 8-10 Fee: $60 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Pond Street Recreation Complex, Norfolk, MA The purpose of this program is to help participants maintain a positive attitude toward accomplishments, avoid injuries and ENJOY THE SPORT OF RUNNING! This is a non competitive, set your own goals program. We will focus on important aspects of running, such as; warm-up and cool down, why, how and when to stretch, proper running form, pace setting, keeping a log/journal, rest and recovery, and good nutritional habits including hydration. Pepsi Pitch, Hit & Run Baseball Skills


Age: 7-14 Fee: Free Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Pee Wee Fields At Fletcher Field Major League Baseball & the Franklin Recreation Department are giving kids a chance to showcase their baseball abilities. This competition allows kids to display three baseball skills; hitting, pitching, and base running. Winners in each age category will advance on to the sectional competition and possibly end up at Fenway Park at a Red Sox Game. Email creagan@franklin.ma.us, with program ideas! Track & Field


Age: 7-14 Fee: $85 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: FHS Track Franklin Recreation is offering an outdoor track & field program for children ages 7-14 years old. Practices will be held at the Franklin High School Track with some meets held out of town. Transportation may be provided via bus to away Track meets. The instructors are Lauren Taranto and Mike Masseur. They will organize and run meets and practices. Runners of all abilities can participate. Runners can take part in the 4th of July Road Race on Saturday, June 30th at 10:00 am at the Town Common. Track & Field shirts will be provided as part of the program. Childrens Programs Action Packed Wednesdays


Ages: 6 -12 Fee: (3hrs/6hrs) $35/$60 Reg Date: Dec. 26 Location: Franklin Recreation Department This program is for Kindergarten-grade 5 on scheduled professional development half days. Each day will have a new and different theme. Various games, activities and events will take place that go along with the weekly theme. XBOX 360 Tournament


Age: 8-12 Fee: $10 Reg Date: Dec. 26 Location: Franklin Recreation Department Think you got game? Come to the Recreation Department and prove it. The tournaments will be set up as round robin, which lets everyone have at least 2 games. The entry fee is $10 and the winner will receive a trophy. Food and drink can be purchased at the event. Controllers and systems are provided but if you would like to bring your own controller, please label it and anything else you bring. These Tournaments will run 2 hours so if the tournament finishes early we will have free play. Please register before the class to allow time to set up brackets and get the necessary equipment. DINO DIG (Dinosaur Discovery)


Age: 7-9 Fee: $85 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Franklin Recreation Department Come join this fun and exciting class learning about dinosaurs. As beginning paleontologists we will learn about dinosaurs and the techniques used in extracting fossils in this hands on class. We will learn about the different types of dinosaurs, their size, where they live and what they ate. Then we will go on our own fossil dig, analyze and assemble skeleton pieces to figure out dinosaur we discovered to reconstruct and create a mural. 3D Lego Engineering
Age: 6-11 Fee: $85 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Franklin Recreation Department New program to our Lego Engineering series. No amount of huffing and puffing will blow our buildings down! Understanding and visualizing dimension is the cornerstone of engineering, architecture, and building. In this hands-on LEGO class, students learn principles of construction and use math skills as we experiment with scale and size, symmetry and reflection. Most of all, we will have a lot of fun. Miss Amy's Art Class


Age: 6-11 Fee: $55 Reg Date: Dec. 26 Location: Franklin Recreation Department Ms. Amy brings her art classes to Franklin Recreation. It's time to get messy! Come and explore the many different ways to paint and draw. Your child will get an artist's education on how to use charcoal, paint, and other mediums. Plus make their artwork come to life by learning about shape, texture, shading and perspective. Bring a smock or wear paint clothes! Home Alone Safety


Age: 8-12 Fee: $45 Reg Date: Dec. 26 Location: Franklin Recreation Department Children will learn telephone and door answering techniques, internet safety, accident and fire protection and first aid techniques. Well also talk about how to manage your time when youre home alone for short periods of time. The class includes a variety of teaching methods, including a video and role playing. Bullyproofing
Age: 7-10 Fee: $45 Reg Date: Dec. 26 Location: Franklin Recreation Department This program is designed to be preventative and proactive, so that children can avoid being bullied, and if they are bullied, how to stop it. In an interactive, non-threatening manner, children learn how to become Bully Proofed". Location: Franklin Recreation Department. Pre K Programs Knucklebones Exploration


Age: 10 months-2.5 yrs Fee: $80 Reg Date: Dec. 26 Location Franklin Recreation Department Knucklebones Exploration Program engages children ages 10 months to 2.5 years of age. Playing alongside their parent/guardian, or child care provider, the KB staff and your toddler(s) explore a vast assortment of creative movement activities. Through rolling, tumbling, pushing, pulling, spinning, and moving, toddlers will be challenged and gain confidence. Each week KB staff will bring a mixture of activities to create a stimulating area of free play followed by group-led activities and games. From dozens of foam balls, to a floor full of tumbling mats and shapes, to push carts, scooters and mini trampolines; KB will bring a plethora of engaging games and equipment for your child. Free Play Friday


Age: 1.5-4 Fee: $25 Reg Date: Dec. 26 Location: Franklin Recreation Department Looking for some fun activities for your 1.5 to 4 year old on Fridays during the winter? Free play Fridays is a play-based class that will allow your child to explore different obstacle courses each week. There will be kids music and complementary coffee for the parents. First Friends
Age: 2-3 Fee: $80/$60 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Franklin Recreation Department Do you have a 2-3 year old who wishes they could go to school? Let your preschooler enjoy some independence and socialization with peers in this preschool curriculum based, drop off class, taught by two certified teachers. Each week we will explore a different theme and have related activities such as stories, songs, fingerplays, art activities, and games as well as gross motor play. This 1 1/2 hour class is a great transitioning first step before preschool and longer drop off activities. Snack is provided, however if your child has allergies we ask that you provide their snack. More Fun With Friends Lunch Bunch


Age: 3-5 Fee: $100 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Franklin Recreation Department Has your child already had fun in First Friends and is ready for a little more fun time for them and free time for you? This 2 1/2 hour class for 3-5 year olds is the same fun as More Fun with Friends with a lunch bunch component. Send your child with a lunch and drink and we will supply a great time! More Fun With Friends


Age: 2.9-5 Fee: $90 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Franklin Recreation Department Has your child already enjoyed First Friends? If your child is age 2.9-5 years old, here is a special drop off class designed just for you! Children will enjoy the same First Friends experiences while exploring a different theme every week. We have increased our class time to 2 hours to allow for more involved activities. Please note the time change. Class will be taught by certified teachers with a low teacher-child ratio to allow many hands on learning opportunities. Each week we will explore a different theme and have related activities, such as, stories, songs, fingerpainting, games and gross motor play. Remember to be prepared to get messy and have fun, so dress comfortably. Snack is provided. However, if your child has allergies we ask that you provide their snack. Peter Cottontail's EGGcellent Adventure


Age: 1-9 Fee: $10 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: FHS Field House Experience the largest egg hunt in the area with Peter Cottontail. Peter & his friends will entertain kids with egg painting, pictures, face painting, and a huge egg hunt. Bring your own basket and join the fun. Bring a camera for some great photos. Intro to Pee Wee Baseball


Ages: 2-4.5 Fee: $55 Reg Date: Jan. 1 Location: Franklin Recreation Department Utilize practice time indoors during the cold winter to introduce your child to baseball. This program is designed to be an introductory program for kids who are not old enough for Pee Wee baseball this year. The program will cover, fielding ground balls, running bases, hitting, and pitching but in a smaller group. Get your child excited about playing baseball. Community Education
First Aid and CPR
Age: 14 and up Fee: $70 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Franklin Recreation Department The Franklin Recreation Department in conjunction with the American Red Cross has been providing quality CPR and First Aid training to Franklin residents for many years. Franklin Rec. is teaming up to bring CPR and First Aid training to the Franklin Community for ages 14 old and up. Instructor is Laura Atwood. Whether for employment, school, babysitting, or just an overall understanding of infant child and adult CPR; this course is the course for you and your family. Certifications are valid for 2 years after the completion of this course. Each participant will receive a certification card upon completion of the course. Day W Time 6:00-9:00 P Date 3/7 & 3/14

Mommy/Daddy and Me Kayaking


Age: Pre-K and Adults Fee: (Adult/child pair or accompanying adult) $109 or $85 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Beaver Pond This program was developed by Still River Outfitters, Inc., to address the growing number of active adults starting families. In addition to basic paddling skills and safety considerations, we help parents adapt our proven strategies to comfortably paddle with a toddler. This class is taught in stable recreational kayaks where the child will sit safely between the parents legs in the kayak's cockpit. Intro to Kayaking

Intro to Geo-Caching
Ages: 8+ Fee: $55 Reg Date: Dec. 26 Location: Franklin (Emailed location a week before event) This outing will get you started enjoying the modern day treasure hunting activity of Geo Caching. You will learn how to get the coordinates for interesting caches near you and how to use a hand held GPS receiver and compass to find the cache. GPS receivers will be supplied for your use during class. This course is designed to be enjoyed by individuals, couples and families. Come on out and try something new! Please note that well be outdoors in uneven terrain. Please wear good footwear and dress appropriately for the weather! Waterville Valley Stay and Ski Trip

Department are teaming for a Ski and Stay Special! This includes a 1 night stay at the North Star Inn, 1 full mountain lift ticket and a $12 food voucher. This package also includes round trip shuttle service to and from the mountain, and also allows you access to the White Mountain Athletic Club. Adult Program's Ladies Snowshoeing/Trek
