Registration Information
Walk-In & Online Registration for selected Spring Programs will begin on Wednesday, February 1st, at 8:30 am at the Recreation office located on 150 Emmons Street. For online registration, please visit our NEW website at: http://franklinma.virtualtownhall.net/Pages/FranklinMA_Recreation/index Please click on Program Registration and look for the link ONLINE REGISTRATION where you will be directed to a secure site. You can enter your information (Name, address, phone, email) as well as credit card information. Please make sure to provide a valid email address as this is how we communicate with participants. Recreation Department Policies All programs are offered on a first come, first serve basis. Franklin Recreation reserves the right to cancel or consolidate any program that does not meet the minimum participant registration numbers. Remember nothing terminates a program faster than waiting until the last minute to register. Avoid disappointment and register promptly. Programs will be cancelled should the program not meet the minimum participant requirements. Participants Responsibility We ask all participants to respect the staff, volunteers, coaches, other participants, age requirements, and the equipment we use. Additional rules will be announced at each program. If a participant fails to cooperate with the rules, the Director reserves the right to dismiss or suspend a participant in any program without a refund or fees returned. Franklin Recreation is not a day care, after-school care program or babysitting service. Please read and understand the policies. If they are unclear to you, please ask questions. All participants must pre-register and sign a waiver for ALL programs. The program coordinator on duty is solely responsible for the activities taking place. Children should not be left unattended in the building or at the fields at any time. Please be on time dropping off and picking up children from their programs. Failure to do so will result in additional cost, penalties or suspension from programming. Registration Registrations will be accepted until the program is full or 1 week prior to the start date. In some cases, registration will be accepted up to the start of the program. You may register for a program at the Old Town Hall, 150 Emmons Street, Monday-Friday. We now accept mail in registration by printing a copy of our waiver form, and sending a check with the registrants information. All Franklin and Medway residents will be given first opportunity to sign up for a program. If a particular program. sells out quickly, non-residents may not be allowed to register. Included on our website in the Program Registration area is the mail in registration forms which can be U.S. mailed into our office. Course Confirmation No confirmations are sent out!!!!! Please understand that it is your responsibility to know the date, time, and location of any program. A participant is registered only when payment is received, unless the department notifies you otherwise. We will only notify you if there are any problems or changes. Weather Cancellations When the Franklin School Department cancels school because of emergencies or weather conditions, all Recreation Department programming will be cancelled for the entire day. If a storm develops later in the day, please call the Recreation Departments weather line, 520-4909 ext. 2, or visit our website at http://franklinma.virtualtownhall.net/Pages/FranklinMA_Recreation/index Switching Programs If space allows and you wish to switch to another program, we will be happy to transfer you to that program. However, receipt numbers and participant information must be presented in person at the Recreation office. NEW Refund Policy
Refunds are only issued in the event of a cancelled program or if there is a medical emergency with a doctor's note. A $10 fee will be charged for all refunds.
Special Needs Children and adults with special needs are encouraged to participate in recreation programs. Staff members are sensitive to your needs and will do everything possible to assist you. If you are interested in participating in a program but are not sure about the facility, transportation, or wish to discuss program details, please call the Director of Recreation and ADA Coordinator, Ryan Jette, to ask about specifics. The Town of Franklin is working toward bringing all facilities into compliance with ADA guidelines. For a copy of our ADA Self Evaluation and Transition Plan, please see Ryan Jette (Director of Recreation & ADA Coordinator). Inability to Pay It is the policy of the Recreation Department that no resident of the Town shall be refused participation in a program, or the use of facilities because of inability to pay. Confidential applications can be made to the Director of Recreation, and if a hardship exists, the applicant may be granted a reduction in fee at the discretion of the Director. Please contact Ryan Jette in writing and include a copy of your most current 1040 tax form or a copy of a public assistance record. Report ALL household income!
This introductory babysitting class allows potential sitters the opportunity to learn about the business of babysitting. After 6 hours of training, you will receive a certification card and be put on our Call-A-Teen program list for possible babysitting jobs. Child care & wellness will be the focus with basic first aid and safety tips from Franklin Police & Fire, and a child care specialist. Open to kids aged 11-16 years old.
Introduction to Robotics
Age: 10 and up Fee: $100 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Franklin Recreation Department The Recreation Department is proud to offer Introduction to Robotics. The program includes instruction in robotic basics with demonstrations and hands on activities with real working robots that move about on their own, talk and perform a variety of tasks. Community Garden
Renewals: Beginning Wednesday, February 1st, gardeners who maintained a raised bed at the King Street Memorial Community Garden may begin to renew for the 2012 season. Gardeners have until Friday, March 2nd to complete the renewal application and submit payment.The season fee is $40 and is payable to The Town of Franklin. The application will be processed through the Franklin Recreation Department, 150 Emmons Street (Old Town Hall) Waitlist: The Community Garden Committee will also open a rolling waiting list for the garden beginning February 1st. Available gardens will be offered on a first come, first served basis and assignments will begin Monday, March 5th pending available space at the garden. Sign up for the waiting list at,

Spring Basketball
Age: 8-14 Fee: $75 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Remington/Jefferson Courts Boys & girls, grades 3-8 can join our Sunday Spring Basketball League. This spring league will play half indoor, half outdoor games. League Coordinator Jim Edgehill will place the players on a team, and four teams will be established in each division. Games are played at Remington Jefferson indoor/outdoor courts. During inclement weather, both games will be played indoor. 3D Lego Engineering
Age: 6-11 Fee: $85 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Franklin Recreation Department New program to our Lego Engineering series. No amount of huffing and puffing will blow our buildings down! Understanding and visualizing dimension is the cornerstone of engineering, architecture, and building. In this hands-on LEGO class, students learn principles of construction and use math skills as we experiment with scale and size, symmetry and reflection. Most of all, we will have a lot of fun. Bullyproofing
Age: 7-10 Fee: $45 Reg Date: Dec. 26 Location: Franklin Recreation Department This program is designed to be preventative and proactive, so that children can avoid being bullied, and if they are bullied, how to stop it. In an interactive, non-threatening manner, children learn how to become Bully Proofed". Location: Franklin Recreation Department. First Friends
Age: 2-3 Fee: $80/$60 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Franklin Recreation Department Do you have a 2-3 year old who wishes they could go to school? Let your preschooler enjoy some independence and socialization with peers in this preschool curriculum based, drop off class, taught by two certified teachers. Each week we will explore a different theme and have related activities such as stories, songs, fingerplays, art activities, and games as well as gross motor play. This 1 1/2 hour class is a great transitioning first step before preschool and longer drop off activities. Snack is provided, however if your child has allergies we ask that you provide their snack. First Aid and CPR
Age: 14 and up Fee: $70 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Franklin Recreation Department The Franklin Recreation Department in conjunction with the American Red Cross has been providing quality CPR and First Aid training to Franklin residents for many years. Franklin Rec. is teaming up to bring CPR and First Aid training to the Franklin Community for ages 14 old and up. Instructor is Laura Atwood. Whether for employment, school, babysitting, or just an overall understanding of infant child and adult CPR; this course is the course for you and your family. Intro to Kayaking
Age: 10-15 Fee: $95 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Beaver Pond Introduction to Kayak for Youths provides kids the chance to learn exciting new skills. This youth specific kayaking class teaches the same skills and safety considerations as our adult program, but in a kid friendly format. Age: Adult Fee: $95 Reg Date: Feb. 1 Location: Beaver Pond Introduction to Kayak is a program that emphasizes safety, enjoyment and skill acquisition in stable recreational kayaks. This instructional programs' introduction to safe and efficient paddling is relevant for learning the foundation skills for paddling all types of kayaks. Intro to Geo-Caching
Ages: 8+ Fee: $55 Reg Date: Dec. 26 Location: Franklin (Emailed location a week before event) This outing will get you started enjoying the modern day treasure hunting activity of Geo Caching. You will learn how to get the coordinates for interesting caches near you and how to use a hand held GPS receiver and compass to find the cache. GPS receivers will be supplied for your use during class. This course is designed to be enjoyed by individuals, couples and families. Come on out and try something new! Please note that well be outdoors in uneven terrain. Please wear good footwear and dress appropriately for the weather! Hatha Yoga
Age: Adult Fee: $60 Reg Date: Jan. 1 Location: Franklin Recreation Department Yoga is an ancient approach to life and offers a complete health program. Yoga benefits every system in the body; muscular, circulatory, nervous, immune. When approached as a noncompetitive activity Hatha yoga is an excellent vehicle for stress management. The emphasis of this class will be to focus inward and work at your own ability to achieve your highest level of health and happiness. All levels of experience are welcome.
