Issues regarding and relating to environmental Refugees and internally displaced people, with further reference to forced migration and the implications of climate change. In the words of our fearless leader King Abdullah II, supreme commander of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, peace is not an option, it is the one and only solution for the unity of the peoples of the Middle East. In all spheres of life, this philosophy is reflected in the actions of the Jordanian peoples. We believe that the problems of the environment and climate change are a perilous scourge upon forthcoming generations, and actions must be taken today if we are going to protect the future of tomorrow. Again, we would like to emphasise the need for regional peace such that we may work together against the new enemy that we face. In a region with severe issues of water-security, we believe that ongoing conflict is unnecessarily impeding upon the potential progress that may be made in the area of environmental protection. It can be seen already that environmental refugees are matching those political refugees, marching across borders to escape persecution by the hand of our fickle earth. Jordan believes that we must put in place proper measures to deal with these issues. Guided by the principles of the Hashemite Kingdom, Jordan is united in its conviction of diplomacy and freedom. We have faced countless years of conflict and it is our belief that we must secure regional peace as best we can, as soon as we can, so that we may make haste against a problem which is bearing down upon us like a heavy rain falling from a distant sky. Jordan will readily admit that it is weary of the challenges that water scarcity poses. The hard working peoples of our nation and the surrounding Arab region are at a crossroads. Very real threats of environmental displacement due to a lack of access to water is a current conflict that we must face today. However, the political environment is already pre-engaged with nationalistic disparages against peace in the Arab sphere. Jordan would like to rise up and say no longer. No longer can we ignore the new enemy that we collectively face. No longer can we fight amongst ourselves when we should be working together. No longer will the peoples of Jordan be tormented by threats of environmental displacement. We ask for collective action against political conflict in our region so that we may fight a collective unilateral front against the impediments of the environment.

Ensuring the good governance of climate change and environmental sustainability through increased governance of issues relating to and surrounding the environment. Jordan believes that correct environmental governance can only be achieved when nations coexist in a world which is free of the hindrances of political conflict. The Arab region is proof of a group of nations predisposed to fighting political battles rather than actively working towards the solution of peace. Jordan, guided by the honourable and just King Abdullah II bin al-Hussein, believes that the liberalisation of the peoples of the Arab region through an end to political conflict will ensure a strong platform for good environmental governance. Jordan is a nation with fewer natural resources than those of our neighbouring countries. We place significant emphasis on maintaining strong relationships with those nations who help provide the Jordanian people with a life-blood to prosper, and Jordan believes that this multilateralism is necessary if we are to ensure environmental sustainability for the future. A key threat to the people of Jordan is water scarcity. We are faced with a limited supply of water and a growing demand for the resource that it provides. In the face of these troubles, Jordan requires a regional commitment to securing peace within the Arab community. Once peace has been secured, we may renew our commitment to improving good environmental governance, and ensuring equality within the context of this changing world. In a considered approach to the need for good governance, Jordan believes in linking environmental policy to economic and political representation. Fundamentally, Jordan views good governance for environmental sustainability to be necessary in ensuring intergenerational equality, protection of biodiversity and the security of the peoples of Jordan and all nations in parallel situations. A coordination of market-based economic policies, combined with strong political governance which is fundamentally linked to ensuring environmental sustainability is necessary to give people a stable and secure biosphere. Jordan recognises the struggles it faces in this area, and water security within the entire Arab region is of utmost importance. Justifiably, Jordan requires an end of the conflict that is fought within our region. Regional peace and an end to the political conflict is a requisite foundation for the renewed ability to focus on issues of environmental sustainability. Maintaining the prosperity of the Arab sphere, and ensuring the new entry of our people as leaders on the global stage is what is possible if we can coordinate our response to the need for environmental sustainability. Jordan is respectful of the position of the United Nations and looks forward to the multilateral that may be offered within this issue.
