CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Classroom Management  An integral part of the teaching process.  Suggests providing a classroom environment that is conducive to learning a. Appropriate time scheduling for various activities b. Orderly placement of furniture and instructional materials c. Clean and well-lighted area d. Comfortable seating arrangement e. Inviting place for interaction f. Well-kept records of performance g. Well-establish classroom discipline Some Supportive Measures in Creating Well-Managed Classroom A. Organizational Plan 1. Structured Classroom a. Learning activities are well-planned ahead of time b. Learning procedures follow accepted rules and regulations established c. Lesson plan is carefully prepared d. Needed instructional tools and materials are readily available e. Both teacher and students feel responsible for a successful completion of the days plan 2. Flexible Classroom a. Allowance for free movement b. Allowance for time allotment c. Allowance of decisions in learning activity modes of undertaking d. Students can express and pursue special interests e. Students can have responsibility to gain relevant experiences f. Has spontaneous explorations and discovery of information g. Encourages active participation in their own style of learning h. Allow different types of grouping 2.1.Individualized Approach a. Instructional approaches are intended for each individual student ability, interests and needs b. Some arrangements are setting up learning centers will favor an individualized approach. c. An area or cubicle can be arranged for a particular subject. d. Each center contains simple tools, materials and references depending on the unit to be taught. e. Student may be allowed to visit the center to study some topics/concepts in line with his specialization. 2.2.Group Set-up a. Ability grouping put together students of the same achievement level.

b. Groupings according to hobbies and recreational skills like photographers, dancers and swimmers are also popular. c. Grouping could facilitate teaching strategies such as cooperative learning, group experimenting or drama presentations. 2.3.Combination of Both a. Examples of activities for whole class instruction are watching a demonstration, listening to a resource person and taking a field trip. B. Scheduling a. Good time management is the key to a smooth flow of planned activities. b. Proper timing could sustain motivation and interest. c. Teachers must thoroughly plan for their daily lessons and for additional activities such as: 1. Parent-teacher conference after classes 2. Working with other teachers during occasional school events 3. Preparing new teaching devices 4. Advanced requests for supplies and materials for the weeks lessons and for learning centers 5. Supervising students along the corridors and school ground or while eating in the canteen. d. Practice the habit of giving direct and clear instructions. e. Establish routine procedures and assign students the corresponding tasks and responsibilities to save much time. f. Always get ready with filler activities when the lesson is completed ahead of time. g. Schedule precious time for yourself as well. Filler or Emergency Activities a. Ask for a brief story that is about or an extension of the lesson. b. An anecdote that happened recently will surely be interesting. c. Have a question box and let a student pick one and answer. d. Role-play about the lesson conclusion. e. Let them compose a short poem Tips for Maintaining Good Time Management a. Schedule all activities with corresponding time allotment way ahead of time. b. Provide enough time for everything you expect to happen. c. Avoid rushing since you know you have carefully allotted required time for every activity. d. Anticipate difficulties or failure of some operations in order to be able to pursue alternative actions. e. Be flexible with time assignments. f. Use fillers in case you finish the lesson ahead of time. g. Set the example by showing that you are time conscious.

C. Record Keeping 1. Daily attendance - Presence or absence of the students - Permanent seat assignment will help - Cases of tardiness may be traced - Basis of performance in classroom tasks - Irregular attendance will easily be solved. 2. Students progress - Must perform with utmost proficiency. - List of students performance and progress in school activities. - Must be done with care in keeping accurate records - Communicate it to parents in the best means possible. - Building positive relationship between teachers and parents - Send to parents through quarterly (every grading period) report cards - Send letters of daily observations through parent-teacher conferences - Citation of academic achievements will also be kept.
