Bottomline - The Pentium B940 belongs to the latest Sandy Bridge processor while the P6200 is an earlier Arrandale processors. The P6200 is slightly higher in clock frequency ( 2.13 GHz) but due to better architecture and better memory speed ( DDR3-1333 Vs DDR3-1066 in P6200), the 2.00 GHz B940 is slightly better. The Intels Dual Core B940 is the latest entrant in the low cost moderate performance notebook processor belonging to the Sandy Bridge processors. It is a dual core 2.0 GHz processor, that improves upon the previous architecture by improving upon the graphics core. The Intels Pentium P6200 corresponds to the earlier 1st generation core i3 processors in terms of architecture. Its clock frequency is slightly higher at 2.13 GHz. The comparison between the the processor should come out interesting as at it will bring out if the Sandy Bridge architecture is superior or not. First of all the architecture differences. The Pentium B940 has only 2 MB of L3 ( shared ) cache while the Pentium P6200 has 3 MB of Level 3 cache, which should give 6200 slight edge over the B940. Other than this the basic differences would be the difference in the Sandy Bridge and Arrandale architecture. Both the processors lack the Turbo Boost feature, which enhances the performance of processors by momentarily increasing the core frequency of the processor. Let us take a look at the benchmark result of the two processor and compare them. - The Passmark score of Intel Pentium B940 stands at 2018, as compared to the Passmark score of Pentium P6200 s score 1631. The establishes the first hand superiority of the the Pentium B940 in particular and Sandy Bridge architecture in particular. - However, other benchmarks suggest that the performance gain of the Pentium B940 is not substantially higher than that of P6200. For example the Super Pi 2M is only marginally better for B940. - The Pentium B940 has, however, a better integrated graphics. So if you compare two notebooks based upon B940 and P6200 and NOT using any discrete graphics, the graphics performance of the B940 should come out substantially better than the P6200. We do not have other benchmark results available yet. Please feel free to add any of your comment that you have about the Pentium B940 and P6200 comparison. I think it is marginally better than B940. But it will be better than P6100 but inferior to the 1st generation core i3 processors. William Hoga e says: November 11, 2011 at 9:34 pm One retail sales person told me that the Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor P6200 is a more recent and therefore yields superior performance when compared to B960 Processor. Both are in basic Acer laptops. Both laptops are the same price at two different retailers are two retailers involved in this Acer laptop comparison. I do not play games. Mostly I use the laptop I now have for e-mails and looking up information from Web sites like WebMD (example). I do not do any design work. Enough of a difference in performance for these tasks to pick one over the other? Color me novice. Thanks. Reply

B950 and B960 belong to newer Sandy Bridge series and are faster than the previous generation P6200 processors, especially in graphics area. I think you should opt for Pentium B950 if the notebooks have some price. Reply
