WDC DG HANNAHS NEWS BYTES

Letter From the President by Katie Novaria

Love is in the air and your valentine from Hannah the Delta Gamma has arrived! Its time for the February edition of Hannahs New Bytes, the official newsletter of the Washington, D.C. Delta Gamma Alumnae Chapter. In January our chapter stayed cozy and warm at our chili cookoff hosted by Mallory Trimyer. There were six tasty chilies prepared by our members and all of them were unique. They ranged from white bean chicken chili to black bean chili. We had a blast tasting the chili, voting with dollar bills for our favorites (the money raised benefited the foundation), and making braille valentines while the votes were tabulated. The vote was very close, but the winner of the chili cook-off was Natasha Pedroza! On February 16th we have another fun food chapter event planned, so be sure to check out Karens What Not to Miss this Month for all the details. This month I would like to highlight another one of our fabulous special interest groups, DG Dine Out. In January DG Dine Out took advantage of DCs restaurant week and dined in style at The Palm in Dupont Circle. DG Dine Out is a laid back group of foodies that meets once a month. Restaurants vary in price and

Foundation Focus by
Hello DG Sweethearts!

Lynn Neagley

A big hug and thank you to everyone who participated in the chili cook off and voted for your favorite chili. As you know, all donations went towards supporting a deserving local organization which supports the blind and visually impaired! Your generosity, once again, is so special!!! Thanks also to all of you who mailed or brought in your Labels for Education prior to the deadline for mailing to Executive Offices. Christine Rocchio made sure our labels made it in time and hugs to her! With Convention coming up this summer, we want our Chapter to receive proper credit in all areas under consideration for awards. Please continue to save Labels, Box Tops as we are always clipping and saving so that DG schools for the Blind as well as the Maryland School for the Blind can purchase equipment for these schools. And yes, saving eyeglasses and bringing them to events or mailing to me is definitely welcome in 2012! Those will be turned in to the Lion's Club this year. As always, your input on what we as a chapter can do to support the blind and visually impaired is always welcome so don't be shy, let me know what Service for Sight projects you would like to participate in this year! ITB, Lynn Your VP-Foundation

Healthy, Wealthy and Wise by Tricia Williams

Healthy . . . A recent study showed that young women could correctly answer seven out of 10 basic fertility questions less than half the time. Fertility varies among women but in general, a womans peak fertility is in her mid 20s. At 30, a healthy woman has about a 30% percent chance of conceiving per month and by the time she reaches 40, her odds drop to less than 10% each month (some say as low as 5%). Want to learn more about fertility or wonder when you should start a family? Please have a long discussion with your obgyn! You can also look around on the web but there is a lot of conflicting information out there. Some decent sites (note I didnt say great) are the American Pregnancy Association (http://www.americanpregnancy.org) and www.fertilityauthority.com. Again: your number one source is always your physician.

Message from Beta Rho House Corp GW

I am looking to add a few new directors to the Beta Rho House Corporation Board at GWU. I know that your alumnae chapter supports American University, but thought that you might have some women who live and work closer to GW who might be interested. The board meets 4 to 5 times a year in person at the GW townhouse to conduct its business and we hold our annual meeting in conjuction with the chapter's Founders Day each year. Most of our business is done via email, so not much travel to GW is required unless they would like to help out with our maintenance committee. If you could forward this request to you members, I would appreciate it. If they are interested and would like more information they can reach me via email at dosburne2001@yahoo.com or 703-256-3410. Thank you again for your assistance. Debbie Osburne President, Beta Rho House Corporation
