A Rose For Emily by William Faulkner 1. Why is Emily Grierson described as a fallen monument?  Emily Grierson described as a fallen monument because Grierson family had held themselves little too high for what they really were and Ms. Emily was believed to be had fallen because she was alone in her life when her father died. 2. What could Ms. Emilys house represent? Comment on the narrators description of the house.  Ms. Emilys house represent as old house which was the only left standing in the once been most selected street. The narrators description of the house was not very detailed that is hard for me to imagine the house. 3. Where does the story take place? Collect some information about the setting.  The story take place in Ms. Emilys house at Jefferson, Mississippi. It was a big squarish frame house that had once been white, decorated with cupolas and spires and scrolled balconies in the heavily lightsome style of the seventies. There is a dim hall from which a stairway, parlor which is furnished in heavy, leather-covered furniture. A fireplace which stood a crayon portrait of Ms. Emilys father. And room abovestaires which no one had seen in 40 years. 4. How does the narrator describe Homer Barron? What does Homer connote? What could the name Barron connote?  The narrator described Homer Barron as a Yankee--a big, dark, ready man, with a big voice and eyes lighter than his face. The name Homer connotes security, pledge and a hostage. The name Barron connotes burned clearing and young warrior. 5. After Ms. Emilys death. What do we discover in the room which no one had seen in 40 years?  After Ms. Emilys death, we discover in the room which no one had seen in 40 years was a man himself lay in the bed. 6. Why is the second pillow in the bed important? What does it show to us?  The second pillow is important because it is the one which Ms. Emily use when she lay in that bed beside the man. 7. Discuss Ms. Emilys motive for her actions.  Ms. Emilys motive for her actions is that, she doesnt want to be alone for a lifetime so she poisoned Homer Barron and keep the dead body in her room.
