ifficulty: Challenging Instructions

things you'll need: 24V/120V center-tapped transformer Two 82 ohm resistors Two 820 ohm resistors One 47 microfarad electrolytic (polarized) capacitor Twelve-volt battery Two bipolar junction (PNP) transistors Electrical wire (16-18 AWG) Four crimp-type ring terminals Electronic solder Soldering iron Electrical pliers 1 Cut eight equal-length pieces of wire. Strip one-half inch of insulation from each wire end.

2 Twist together one end of the first wire with one of the leads from the first 82 ohm resistor. Solder the twisted wire pair to the base terminal on the first transistor.

3 Twist together one end of the second wire with one of the leads from the second 82 ohm resistor. Solder the twisted wire pair to the base terminal on the second transistor.

4 Twist together one end of the third wire with the unoccupied leads from both 82 ohm resistors. Solder this wire joint to the emitter leads on both transistors.

5 Twist the unoccupied end of the first wire together with one of the leads from the first 820 ohm resistor, and solder the connection. Twist the unoccupied end of the second wire together with one of the leads from the second 820 ohm resistor, and solder the connection.

6 Twist together one end of the fourth wire, the negative lead from the capacitor and the unoccupied lead from the first 820 ohm resistor. Solder this wire joint to the collector lead on the first transistor.

7 Twist together one end of the fifth wire, the positive lead from the capacitor, and the unoccupied lead from the second 820 ohm resistor. Solder this wire joint to the collector lead on the second transistor.

8 Solder the free end of the fourth wire to one of the transformer primary (center-tapped side) terminals. Solder the free end of the fifth wire to the other transformer primary terminal. Solder one end of the sixth wire to the center tap.

9 Place a ring terminal over the unoccupied end of the third wire, and crimp the terminal to the wire. Place a ring terminal over the sixth wire, and crimp the terminal to the wire.

10 Solder one end of the seventh wire to one of the transformer secondary terminals. Solder one end of the eighth wire to the remaining transformer secondary terminal. Crimp a ring terminal on to the free end of the seventh wire. Crimp the last ring terminal to the free end of the eighth wire.

Connect the ring terminal at the end of the third wire to the positive battery terminal. Connect the ring terminal at the end of the sixth wire to the negative battery terminal. This circuit will provide 120 volts AC between the two remaining ring terminal connectors.
