Countries: Case Studies and Best Practice Applications

Abstract

This study attempts to promote social enterprises in Thailand. Although the

Government has set up The National Social Enterprise Committee, the effectiveness of this
organization and the public recognition of the importance of social enterprises in Thailand are
still minimal. The initiatives are to create awareness and supportive measures for the
extension of social enterprises in Thailand, to encourage the business sector to consider social
enterprises as another means of business operations, to have intensive studies, survey, and
research on the value of social enterprises in communities well beings and for economic
development, and, finally, to call for the state and national attention to treat this mission as
a national agenda and a state policy. The beginnings and operations of social enterprises
should be subsidized by the government in terms of financial, marketing and management
supports.
