MECHANICAL NATIONAL OLYMPIAD 2012


Dear Sir/Madam, First of all, receive a warm greeting from governing body and all the members of ASMEUET student section. By means of the present letter, American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) UET Lahore Chapter cordially invites you to the Mechanical National Olympiad 2012 which is being held from 1st - 4th, February 2012.
ASMEUET is a volunteer and multidisciplinary student organization (appointed to the University of Engineering & Technology Lahore) without profit aims. Our objective is to make diverse activities to reinforce the knowledge acquired by the students from diverse engineering branches, through the participation in contests and the development of engineering design projects, congresses, seminars and university social responsibility programs; all of this with support from the university teachers and volunteer students, with high motivation and a great disposition to work as team.

This year ASME UET Lahore plans one of the most unique events ever. This event is a milestone in the establishment of a complete new trend. Mechanical National Olympiad is a 4 day event, in which students from various universities of Pakistan and District G would compete. The Olympiad comprises of seven different technical and non-technical modules out of which two would be of International scale. Along with these seven modules there will also be a number of other exciting events like Beat the Limits and Team Activity to raise the fun meter of participants to its maximum. Moreover, it would be a great opportunity for those who like to interact with new people. So what are you waiting for? Fill in the form and get yourself registered for this mega event. MECHNO12 DETAIL OF MODULES


1) Technical Webpage Competition (International):
The topic is to be related to any engineering theme, provided that it pertains to some technical sphere in which an engineer is or should be involved. The size of page should not exceed 100 Mb. The Participants will send their entries by sending CDs containing the webpage. Fees= 5$(for international participants), 300 Rs (for National)

2) Technical Poster Contest (International):


Participants will have to send their posters on any technical topic designed according to ASME international rules . The size of poster should be either A1 or A2.The entries will be received in soft form if from countries other than Pakistan. Otherwise only hard form will be acceptable. Fees=5$(for international participants), 300 Rs (for National)

3) Future Fantasy:
A team of 2 members will predict the day of 2030. The teams will have to come up with a 6 to 8 minutes presentation that would visually support their idea. The key to win this competition is to be different, convincing and present an earth friendly future. The Participants will have to send their presentations before the event. Fees=500 per team

4) Technical presentation:
The participants will have to deliver an 8 minute presentation followed by a 3-5 minutes question/answer session. The topic should be related to any aspect of applied engineering. The participants will be judged on the basis of their communication skills and technical knowledge. Innovative ideas will be a plus point. The Participants will have to send their presentations before the event. Fees=500 Rs

5) Project Exhibition:
A three member team will exhibit their project based on mechanical or mechatronics and control engineering. Participants will have to submit their Project description prior to event. Fees=750 Rs per team

6)3D CAD Contest:


Participants will be provided with the isometric view of a mechanical component. One who will complete the model in shortest time will win. The software provided would be PRO-E (WILD-FIRE), SOLID-EDGE and SOLID WORKS. Fees=300 Rs

7) Intell -Robo:
Teams of three members each will compete with their intelligent line trackers .The track will contain a steady elevation and depression (slope).Fast and Steady will win the race. Fees=500 8) Beat the limits: Dont forget to bring your video cameras otherwise you will miss the most exciting event of MECHNO !!!!

GENERAL RULES
Registration charges for MECHNO12 are 200 Rs per participant which should be paid along with the collective fees of modules you participate in. An individual can participate in a maximum of four modules.

The presence of participants is not required for the events of Webpage and Poster contest. The participants should send their forms and scanned bank drafts first through e-mail by 25th January; this would just reserve their seat in the event. The deadline for receiving the forms along with bank drafts by post is 28th January. Those who fail to post their forms and draft before 28th January will not be allowed to participate. The mailing address and the postal address are given at the last page of invitation package. The Bank Draft should be in the name of Afraz Ahmed. Beat the Limits, Team Activity, Rapid Design and Seminar are free events. You are eligible to participate in them if you have registered yourself for any one of the seven modules. For modules with Team Participation fill Form B. This form is to be filled by team leader. The deadline for receiving the entries of Webpage, Technical Presentation, Project Description, Future Fantasy Presentation and hard forms of Poster is 28th, January. The deadline for receiving soft form of posters is 25th January. Only International participants can send soft forms of posters. Within the premises of UET if the participant is found guilty of any sort of misconduct he or she will be disqualified. ASME UET reserves the rights to change any part of this document.
