begin the search for a new superintendent immediately. According to Killips, the board believes they have a solid administrative team in place and they hope to maintain that. Killips, who grew up in Ludington, has always worked in Michigan. He taught in Battle Creek for eight years, shared the duties of athletic director and assistant principal in Decatur for two years, was Shelby High Schools principal for nine years and served as superintendent in Reed City for five years. My wife and I visited in the spring of 2002 when it was a choice between moving here or to Grandville, he said. We just fell in love with the place. We liked the idea of a small community, and everything we saw and heard about Chelsea was positive. Killips and his wife plan to remain in Chelsea and continue community activities. He is presently chair of the Chelsea Community Hospital Board of Trustees and a Rotary Club member, while Wanda Killips serves on the United Way board and is involved with Washtenaw Literacy.

After 10 years as Chelsea School Districts superintendent, David Killips has submitted his resignation to the board of education, effective June 30. Killips has worked in the field of education for 34 years. I dont know if theres ever a perfect time, and I question my timing as I go through this, but I also want to do a few other things, Killips said. Hopefully it will be a time to be a better husband and a better father and grandfather. Well probably want to do some traveling, too. His wife, Wanda Killips, retired from her position as principal of Woodland Meadows Elementary School in Saline last June. Weve had a strong educational focus in our family, he said. There are many days that Im going from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., so retirement will be a change. Since Killips has been eligible for retirement for several years, some plans for succession have already begun. The sevenmember school board will

Chelsea Schools Superintendent David Killips will step down after a decade at the helm of the district. David Killips reflected on his years serving the Chelsea School District, listing a few of the major accomplishments achieved under his leadership. At the elementary level, implementing the full-time kindergarten program will pay huge dividends for decades to come. Additionally, the Reading Recovery Program at North Creek is the only one of its kind in the county. So much learning is dependent upon literacy, and Mrs. Kaemming has done a fabulous job with improving the reading of our youngest students, he said. The strong laptop program at Beach Middle

Sylvan Township officials will have to wait for the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners to convene this April prior to receiving the townships equalization report before finalizing another attempt at a sewer and water debt repayment millage. The township board voted last week in favor of a resolution asking the county board to take the necessary steps to put another millage on the Aug. 7 ballot. The first attempt at a 20-year 4.75 mill levy was defeated at the polls 475 to 328 last November after a last-minute series of information meetings failed to win the confidence of the voting public in the township. On Monday, Supervisor Bob Lange had few words on the matter, other than confirming that the county is awaiting the equalization report, in which property values for the most recent tax year will be calculated. That report will determine the new mill rate depending on whether property values

This year, as a senior, he decided to try some other items on his high school bucket list and auditioned for Company C. Hes excited about the Motown theme, and looking forward to performing Track of My Tears. He also enjoys dancing, so the performance will be a lot of fun for him.
