The annual meeting has been scheduled for February 19th, 2012, to start around noon. My time is now focused on getting everything ready for this meeting. A reminder to everyone who wants information to be published for the annual meeting to have the reports into the office by the end of the month. If you have a topic or issue that you would like to have discussed at the annual meeting, please let me know. The annual meeting is a time to discuss important issues, however, it would be nice to know which topics you will want to discuss so we can be assured that the appropriate Council member can discuss it in their report. Since my time is coming to an end on Council, the only open position that is currently available is President. This is an important position on Council and is a good position to get some leadership skills which would be excellent to put on a resume. If you are interested in this position please let me know.

Ash Wednesday and Lenten Midweek Worship

The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22nd this year. Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold services of Holy Communion with the imposition of ashes both at 12:05 and at 7 p.m. on this solemn day. Throughout the season of Lent we will gather for midweek prayer on Wednesdays at 12:05 and at 6:30 p.m. Our meditation will be on the Way of the Cross. In following the footsteps of Christ from his condemnation through to his burial, we are moved to take up our own cross. Christ reveals the way of the cross as the way to true life and to resurrection. A simple meal will be served immediately following the mid-day service and again from 5:45-6:15, just before the evening service; the mid-day meal will be provided by the Congregational Life Committee.

April 28 retreat registration coming soon Trinitys second annual One-day Retreat will be Saturday, April 28, beginning at 10 a.m. at Lutheran Memorial Camp, located near Fulton, Ohio. LMC requires that we confirm the number of participants (for meal-planning purposes) 30 days prior to our event. Watch for more information beginning in late February. Are you interested in helping plan this years retreat? Please contact Amy Hehr and watch the weekly Trinity Happenings for meeting information. We will use the feedback from last years retreat to provide programming that is even more fun and valuable.

The Latest from Pastor Peterson

Now after John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent and believe in the good news. --Mark 1:14 -15 Dear sisters and brothers in Christ, +Peace+ In Marks Gospel, Christs message is clear and the Lord seems to fly forth into his ministry. Immediately upon arriving on the scene, Jesus calls disciples to share in his work of proclaiming the Good News that Gods reign has broken into our broken world. These disciples in their time proclaimed this message, called others into life in the power of Gods love, and modeled that life themselves. On Ash Wednesday, February 22nd this year, we begin the holy season of Lent. For well over a thousand years the Church has taken this seasonthe forty days prior to the Feast of the Resurrection of Christas a particularly fitting time to repent together. Repenting does not mean beating ourselves up for failing to do what we think we should have, or for failing to be the person we think God wants us to be. Much less does it have anything to do with castigating others. To repent is simply to focus our attention upon the Good News of God in Christ, to open ourselves up to Gods reforming power in our lives, and to step forward into new live by faith. The disciplines of Lentfasting, prayer, study, and works of mercyare important ways so to make our lives available to God. I urge you to take these on these disciplines again or for the first time this year, expecting to find the love of God in Christ hidden in them. We at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church also have our annual meeting this monthon Transfiguration Sunday, February 19th, just before the beginning of Lent. As we hear reports of the ministry God has done in, with, and through us, what an awesome time this is to focus our life together on the Good News! So to focus our energies as a congregation is just what it means to be evangelical, since evangelical simply means, of, reflecting, enjoying, and/or sharing good news. May we become even more evangelical in our worship, learning, fellowship, and servant hood. I believe that Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church is at a critical and exciting point in our life. We have long been evangelical in the sense that we know weve been called to receive the love of God in Christ by grace alone through faith alone. Thats quite Lutheran! But also like most Lutherans in North America and Europe, we have not thought of ourselves as evangelical in the sense of being a missionary churcha people not only gathered around the Gospel, but also going forth into our world with the Good News of Christ Jesus. We are coming to understand ourselves as a church not only called, but also sent. I sense that we are like a fledgling who is just now feeling the urge to leave the nest and just developing the strength to do so. These days our ventures forth may be a bit awkward, but what joy it will be as we learn to fly! The time is fulfilled, sisters and brothers!

+Peace+

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the individuals that made the Christmas Season so wonderful. That would include the following: 1. Chris Dent and Tom Wells for their music leadership 2. Trinity Chancel Choir and Trinity Bells for all of their music 3. Many extra musicians that added so much to the services 4. Worship Environment Team for their wonderful new paper banner 5. Mary Reed-Farris for all of her hard work preparing extra bulletins 6. Amanda Greiner for making sure we had lots of wonderful poinsettias 7. All the many volunteers that made the services go smoothly The volunteers are the main focus of this article. Trinity can be very proud of its commitment to a wonderful worship experience. That experience would not be possible if it were not for the volunteers that work behind the scenes and during the service. Those include: 1. Bread Bakers 2. Altar Guild 3. Lectors 4. Cantors 5. Worship Assistants 6. Acolyte/Cross Bearers 7. Greeters The committee is always looking for the opportunity to have more individuals involved in those areas. Please contact me at nealcmh@sbcglobal.net if you are interested in participating in any of the above and you have not done it before. At the present there is a need for a Bread Baker to fill out the 2012 schedule. The opening is in July. A recipe will be provided. Any prospective bakers can talk to any of the present bakers for any ideas. The other area that is currently in transition is Acolyte/Cross Bearer. The youth that were in that role were confirmed last year. The committee thanks them for a job well done. We now would like to open it up to adults as well as any youth that still would like to do it. There is a proposal that the individual will be assisting with the service in more ways than just lighting candles and carrying the cross in the Processional. The details are yet to be worked out.

VO LUM E 6 , IS S UE 2 Vacation Bible School at Old Trinity

When the stewardship campaign for this year's budget was introduced, it was stated that increased giving would be reflected in additional programming at the church. The congregation's response to this plea was overwhelmingly positive and we intend to once again be offering a Bible School program at Old Trinity this summer. We will be holding an initial organizational meeting on Sunday, February 5th, after church in the Fellowship Hall. Everyone who has any interest and/or ideas for again providing a Bible School at Old Trinity are invited to this meeting. Please come with your ideas on when this program might be offered, what the program may look like, and how we might go about getting participants. All input will be welcomed and valued. Please come with your "two cents" on Sunday the fifth of February. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

Snack and a Movie Night

When: Sunday, Feb. 12, 6 p.m. What: Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Pacifist, Nazi Resister Dietrich Bonhoeffer was born into a wealthy German family in 1906. A Lutheran minister, Bonhoeffer had the opportunity to live safely in America, but chose to return to Germany where he actively resisted the Nazi regime. He was imprisoned and was hanged in 1945. The movie will be discussed the following two Sundays, Feb. 19 and 26, at 9 a.m. in the lounge. Trinity member and Trinity Seminary Professor Dr Lisa Dahill will join some of the discussion sessions. And yes, you read that right. Because of a lunch earlier in the afternoon, our monthly movie will be combined with snacks rather than a full meal.

THANK YOU FOR THE FLOWERS!

For many years the womens group of Trinity Lutheran Church has coordinated orders of altar flowers for Sunday worship as well as of poinsettias for Christmas, Palms for Palm Sunday, and Lilies for Easter. The Congregational Life Committee has ordered geraniums for Pentecost Sunday. As of the beginning of 2012, the altar guild has taken on the job of providing flowers for worship. Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church owes a debt of gratitude to the Women of Trinity Lutheran Church and to the Congregational Life Committee for helping beautify our worship services in this way for so many years. In particular we thank Amanda Greiner for ordering palms and lilies, Nancy Gosnell for coordinating Sunday flower orders, and Sharon Heinlein for presenting the flowers to those who have ordered them. Well done, good and faithful servants! Thank you!

Thank you, My Altar Flower Angel for the lovely flowers. I was telling people at the Saturday Service how pretty the flowers were, not knowing they were placed there in my honor. You made me feel so special. I left them on the altar for the mid-week Advent services so others could enjoy them. Thanking God for my special angel. Shirley Griffin

We at Ronald McDonald House are so grateful for your thoughtful and generous contribution of pop tabs and card fronts. Please keep us in your hearts. Your friends at the Ronald McDonald House.

Please continue to save ink cartridges. Staples will recycle ink cartridges and give us money back which then gives us rewards to purchase church supplies. Recycled ink cartridges contributed to saving $111.00 in supply costs. The recycle box is now located in the lobby under the table.

Sugges ons for the Trinity Tidings are always welcome

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church is a Reconciling in Christ Congregation. The members of Trinity Lutheran Church recognize that God loves, Forgives, and calls each of us unconditionally and that every human being is created in the image of God. As a result, we welcome all people into our community of faith and invite them to join us as we seek to understand Gods love for us and struggle to be faithful messengers of that love in the world. Although our world is a place of alienation and brokenness, Christ calls us to reconciliation and wholeness. In response, we join hands with all our sisters and brothers, grateful for the unique gifts that each of us has to offer, regardless of our race, age, gender identity, marital status, physical and mental abilities, sexual orientation, national origin, or economic status. We celebrate together both the diversity of Gods creation and our unity as Gods people.
