DISEASE SURVEILLANCE REPORT

Dengue Cases

Trend
A total of 70,204 dengue cases was reported from different disease reporting units
nationwide from January 1 to September 10, 2011. This is 25.87% lower compared to the same
time period last year (94,703). Weeks 35 and 36 contains partial data (Table 2). July to August
represent the peak months for Dengue. Cases in July and August this year decreased by 67.4%
compared to last year.
Geographic Distribution
Most of the cases were from the following regions: National Capital Region (21.97%),
Region III (19.01%), Region IV-A (14.55%).
Profile of Cases
Ages of cases ranged from less than 1 month to 92 years old (median = 12 years). Majority
(53%) of the cases reported were male. Most (40.9%) of the cases belonged to the 1 to 10 years
age group (Fig. 2). All agegroup have less than 1% case fatality ratio (Fig.3).There were 396 deaths
(CFR 0.56%) reported. Reported cases with CFR greater than 1 came from Regions V, VI, IX and
ARMM (Table 1).
