Paligsahang Pagluto ng Malunggay Para sa Pamilya

RATIONALE: The Malunggay Republik, initiated by its Convenor, Joey Lina, launched its Recipe Contest, dubbed as Paligsahang Pagluto ng Malunggay Para sa Pamilya as part of its massive information campaign on the wide-ranging benefits of the malunggay or the Miracle Tree. It aims to encourage families to plant and propagate malunggay in their own backyard as a vital and regular source of their daily family meal, nutrition, medicine, as well as provide an additional income for the household. This contest also hopes to increase awareness on the nutritive value and many beneficial uses of malunggay, and eventually increase family household consumption of this Miracle tree. OBJECTIVE: The contest is intended to serve as a venue for the selection of the most nutritious, tastiest, and cheapest malunggay-based recipe that can be regularly eaten by the Filipino family in their home. ELIGIBILITY: 1. The contest is open to all participants who shall enter as a family. All family members must, however, first register as malunggay republik citizens by texting Sagot ko Yan! DZMM. 2. All officials and staff of the organizers, DZMM, the judges, up to the third degree of consanguinity of their family member(s) are disqualified to join this contest. MECHANICS, RULES AND REGULATIONS: 1. Contest mechanics are the recipe calls for low-cost, one dish meal using malunggay or moringa oleifera (scientific name) as the main ingredient(s). 2. Contestants may use any part or a combination of parts of the malunggay tree. The recipe will be disqualified if there is no malunggay used 1|Page

2 in the dish. The more parts of the malunggay tree used (e.g. leaves, stem, seeds, pods, fruits, flowers, roots, powder and/or oil), the higher the points to be awarded. Minimum of 10% content of malunggay should be part of the recipe. 3. All Family members that registered as participants of the contest must each have a role to play during the actual cooking of the recipe submitted. 4. Cooking time must not exceed thirty (30) minutes.

Malunggay Recipe Entries must include the title of the recipe, ingredients, malunggay part(s) to be used, procedure, number of servings, nutrient content per serving portion, total cost of recipe, estimated time of preparation and cooking, family members participating. 6. DEADLINE: All entries should be submitted on or before April 15, 2009 to Sagot Ko Yan DZMM. 7. There will be an initial screening of recipes per category to be made by the Malunggay Republik based on the criteria to be used for judging on April 17. 8. Only the top nine (9) recipes for each category shall be selected to be cooked during the actual contest proper to be held on April 22, 2009 at the Manila Hotel. Selected finalists shall be properly informed a day after the initial selection. 9. Finalists shall bring their own ingredients, cooking utensils and paraphernalia, and main serving plate for display (except for gas stove) on the actual day of the competition proper and shall be responsible for the preparation and actual cooking of their respective recipe(s) together with their family members duly registered with malunggay republik. 10. Each participating family per category shall prepare ONE (1) main serving plate for display, and a total of eighteen (18) small plate servings of their recipe for actual tasting, one for each for the nine (9) judges for the main award and for the nine (9) other special VIP guests for the special award category for the Pinakamasarap na Malunggay recipe. 11. Top three winners per category shall be immediately announced and awarded accordingly after the competition. CONTEST DATE, TIME AND VENUE: Initial Screening of Recipes on : April 17, 2009

3 Recipe contest proper will be held for selected top nine (9) finalists per category on : April 22, 2009 , Wednesday at : 2:00 pm at : Manila Hotel CATEGORIES/ PRIZES There will be three (3) categories. Each family shall label their entry in accordance to its proper category. All categories will have the same criteria used for judging. CATEGORIES/PRIZES 1. The winning recipes will be duly recognized in the Sagot Ko Yan Radio Program of ABS-CBN DZMM Teleradyo Program (630 khz) aired every Sunday from 7:30- 9:00 a.m. Manila Hotel reserves the right to include the winning recipe(s) as part of the hotels main dish(es) and may be published by the Manila Bulletin. Judges decision is final.

Participation of family members **SPECIAL AWARD: For Taste and Palatability, selected VIP guests of Malunggay Republik will likewise be given the opportunity to taste the recipe(s) for each category, who will in turn rate them accordingly (1-10, 1 being the highest rank). The winning recipe for this will be given a special popular award for Pinakamasarap na Malunggay recipe.
