Alarm Annunciator Unit

Reliable Supervision an Control

M1000

The SELCO M1000 Alarm Annunciator is a compact 10 channel programmable unit with many features. An input signal originating from a potential free contact, normally open or normally closed, will cause the appropriate alarm LEDs to flash and simultaneously the related output to activate. The internal siren relay will be activated together with the detection of every new alarm.

The M1000 unit has separate indication of first alarm, following alarms and acknowledged alarms. Optional programming for time delays, reset function and other features. Easy alarm identification through use of an insertable text label. Multiple M1000 units can be interconnected to form a large scale alarm system.

Available both as a flush mounted unit (IP54) with standard measurements of 144 x l 44 x 35 mm and as a 19" plug-in card. The M1000 has obtained type approvals from most major clasasification societies.

General Function
The function described in this section assumes that the M1000 unit has been configured for default operation - all programming switches are closed. A potential free contact connected to one of the ten input terminals will cause the appropriate alarm channel to activate. The activation of an alarm is indicated by a flashing light in the related LEDs and the activation of the related open collector output. The first incoming alarm is indicated with a quick flashing light, following alarms are indicated with slow flashing light. The LEDs will keep flashing until the alarms are acknowledged, even though the signals have been disconnected from the input terminals. Pressing the RESET push button will acknowledge all new alarms and all LEDs will change to steady light, provided that the related input signals are still present upon acknowledgement. Pressing the RESET button will also cause the siren relay to deactivate. Each open collector output will stay active as long as the related LEDs are lit.

Alarm Anunciator Unit M1000

External voltage, equal to the unit supply voltage, must always be provided to drive the relay or lamp controlled by an open collector output. Maximum drive capacity of an output is 15OmA.

Negative Reference
Potential free contact with negative reference can be connected through use of a 4.7k resistor. Connection with negative reference described in figure 4 and 5. Please note that programming switches S9 S11 must be ON to give normaly closed input at negative reference.

Input Delays
Each input can be configured with an input delay. Programming switches Sl to S6 are used to select a predefined delay for a combination of inputs. Input delays are convenient where alarms are dependant upon the time of activation i.e. a freezer door alarm - alarm condition would occur only if the door is left open for more that 15 seconds. Delay values according to programming table. Other delay configurations available through PC programming.

Cable Monitoring
By opening switch S7 and S8 cable monitoring is activated for the cables connecting the potential free contacts to the inputs. Cable monitoring provides extra security to the alarm system. Cable fault is indicated with short flashing pulses on the corresponding alarm channel. Cable fault indication will be overridden by activation of input alarms and indicated with normal alarm flash and steady light indication. Connection of the measuring resistor is shown on figure 2 and 3.

Sync-Out on Output 10
The sync-out function provides the possibility of synchronised LED flashing between units in a multiple unit installation. The selection of this function through programming switch S13 on one arbitrary unit, disables the default output function of terminal 26. Sync-out has no functional importance other than providing visual continuity. Connection according to diagram shown in figure 6. Normally Deactivated Siren The default operation of the siren relay will cause terminal 30 and 31 to be shorted during alarm or supply failure. Setting programming switch S14 to its open position will invert the function so that connection between terminal 31 and 32 exists only during alarm condition.

For 12, 24 and 48V DC unit: R = 82k. For 110V DC unit: R = 180k

Input and Output Terminals

All input terminals are located on the left side of the unit and all output terminals are located on the right side (facing the rear plate). The inputs are considered active when connected to positive supply and inactive when disconnected. Please note that the alarm inputs can be configured to operate on normally closed contacts. The outputs are >>Open Collector<< outputs. An open collector output will be at negative supply level when active and at positive supply level when inactive. No current originates from an open collector output, it should only be considered an electronic contact to minus supply level.

For 12, 24 and 48V DC unit: R = 4,7k For 110V DC unit: R = 39k

Normally Open or Normally Closed Contacts

Programming switches S9 to S11 determine the state and operation of the potential free contact connected to an input terminal. A normally open (NO) contact is disconnected when no alarm is present. A normally closed (NC) contact provides a signal when no alarm is present. Normally closed relay contacts are often used as they provide the safety of alarm annunciation in case the supply is lost.

Dimming
It is possible to adjust the brightness of the front plate LEDs by keeping the TEST push button, or terminal 11 (TEST), to + (terminal 28) more than 6 seconds. Dimming is done in 4 consecutive levels. The default brightness is reobtained by activation of the TEST signal. TEST push button connects terminal 11 for 2 seconds.

Insulation Monitoring
By opening programming switch S15 and connecting terminal 16 (GND REF) to ground, channels 7 and 8 are configured for insulation monitoring. If insulation resistance between ground (Terminal 16) and power + (terminal 28) becomes lower that 25k 8k, channel 8 will indicate alarm. If insulation resistance between ground and power minus (Terminal 29) becomes lower than 25k, channel 7 will indicate alarm. The resistance values are 50k 10k for the 110V DC version.
14 Alarm-in 14 Alarm-in 27

The M 1000 includes a special indication of the first incoming alarm. This function can be extended to cover multiple units, thus it will be possible to indicate the first of i.e. 50 alarms. In order to obtain this function, a single wire must be interconnected between all the M 1 000 units. The wire must have connection to (terminal 14) ALARM-IN and (terminal 27) ALARM-OUT on each unit as shown on figure 8.

Voltage Monitoring
By opening programming switch S16, channels 2 and 3 are set for supply voltage monitoring. A resistor selected according to the voltage monitoring formula, must be connected to terminal 2. The voltage monitoring wiring diagram shows the connection. See fig. 7. External voltage supply should then be adjusted to lower voltage limit UL . Press and hold RESET while adjusting the rear side potentiometer until alarm is indicated on channel 3. The calculated resistor determines a fixed distance between lower voltage limit indicated on channel 3 and upper voltage limit indicated on channel 2. By adjusting the potentiometer, over and under voltage limit can be changed, but still with a fixed percentage separation. Reset the alarm unit and check that alarm occurs at the voltage limit intended. Voltage Monitoring Formula. 1. Valid for 12, 24 and 48V Alarm Units:
R= 16 x (UO-UL) UL k

Input Blocking Connecting terminal 13 to positive supply will prevent the M1000 from detecting new alarms. Blocking is released by disconnecting the supply from terminal 13. Direct connection to the supply will block all inputs: Blocking of individual inputs are done through use of external components. Please refer to figures 9 and 1 0.
Direct connection: All inputs are blocked 84kW in series: Inputs 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8 are blocked 4.7kW in series: Inputs 1 and 6 are blocked

Test Function
The TEST push button and the TEST terminal (terminal 11) provides illumination of all LEDS. An extended test function is available through the simultaneous activation of both the TEST and RESET push button. Press and hold the two push buttons: LEDs will illuminate, after 3 seconds the siren relay will activate, and after 6 seconds the outputs will activate.

Test Boards
The SELCO M1045 Test Board will enable the operator to test the functions of the M1000 Alarm Annunciator. The Test Board includes switches for simulation of alarm conditions and LEDs for indication of output status. The M1045 Test Board is the ideal solution for on site configuration and functional test. The SELCO M1044 power supply adapter provides power from a mains outlet.

Applications
SELCO is widely known for its line of generator related apparatus, however the M1000 Alarm Annunciator is not only intended for use with generator sets. Today thousands of M1000 units survey alarm points all over the world. The M1000 unit has been installed aboard ships, at chemical plants, at nuclear facilities and many other places where clear and concise alarm annunciation is absolutely vital. The M1000 is not only a box with LEDS, the M 1000 is a versatile highly programmable alarm annunciator and controller. The M1000 is capable of shutting down alarm dependent equipment controlled by the units open collector outputs. Multiple M1000 units can easily be connected together to form a large scale alarm system, while the simplicity can be maintained with the paper label based design. The paper label provides, not only information on active alarms, but also information on which alarms to expect.

N0300 Process-Logger
The SELCO N0300 Process-Logger provides PC based logging and remote surveillance of up to 62 M1000 Alarm Annunciators.

The M1000 units are connected to the standard or industrial PC through a 4 wire bus cable and an M0300 Adaptor box. The bus cable (max 1000m) is drawn from unit to unit to the adaptorbox and then to the PC. The M1000 unit can also be programmed from the PC, this method of configuration adds new features and breaks the barriers caused by the limited number of programming switches on the M10000 unit.
