1...........................................................................................Introduction Mario Kart Wii is Nintendo's newest kart racing game, and as always, it is abundant with (new) characters and vehicles to unlock, as well as many other extras. In this FAQ, you'll find out how to unlock everything in the game, as well as tips, tricks and shortcuts for each races, and winning strategies for the infamous Ghost Data times that you must beat in order to unlock some of the stuff. These are shortcuts and tips for each track that you can use in Time Trial to beat the Ghost Data times and unlock the Expert Ghosts. In Time Trial, you will have three Mushrooms that you can use. For most shortcuts, you will need to use at least one Mushroom, so one for each lap if you use the shortcuts on each lap. I will tell you when to use them, or where. You can use those shortcuts for the cups too, but some of them will actually slow you down unless you have a Mushroom in your possession, so only use the ones that work even w/o a boost. Also, it is essential you know how to do tricks on ramps. They will give you boosts that are ver y important in beating the Ghost Data times. To do tricks you must shake the Wii Wheel/ wiimote, or press the control pad on the Gamecube controller while you are on a ramp. Anything that can be used as a ramp will work too (such as a pillar or bump in the road).

Mushroom Cup

When you get to the big loop with the boosters before the finish line, do a trick on the ram p on the left side of the road (before the loop) to get a boost as you land. You can either use the boosters ahead inside the loop or cut through the sand on the right side of the loop (m ust be in Manual and use Mini-Turbo).

Not really anything special about this track as far as shortcuts go, the two ram ps are right in the m iddle of the path. Don't forget to do tricks on them to get boosts and right after the second one, use one of your Mushroom s to boost across the patches of grass without being slowed down.

Do a trick at the end of the first bridge for a boost, then when you get to the first fork, don't take the left path. Continue straight ahead to hit the ram p. Do a trick to get a boost and land on the m ushroom . When you bounce on red m ushroom s, you can do the sam e trick as on ram ps. This will give you another boost as you land back on the road. In the cave ahead take the straight path, hit the ram p and do a trick, then do tricks on all the red m ushroom s for m ore boosts. The last one will give you a good boost as you land back on the path. As soon as you land, instead of following the dirt path, take a left and cut through the grass patch around the pit. Use one of your Mushroom s at this spot so you're not slowed down.

your advantage. The first is before the bridge with the m oving walkways; perform a trick for a boost. This is also where you should use one of your Mushroom s to boost past the m oving walkways without being slowed down by them . There will be another ram p after the tunnel ahead, which will give you a boost to get past the bum ps in the path. Then there's a series of three boosts between the m oving walls. Try to get all three, or at least the last one (the ram p) and do a trick for a boost before the finish line.

Flower Cup

When you get to the turn where Chom p is, use one of your three Mushroom s to cut through the grass behind and do a trick on the ram p for a boost as you land inside the tunnel ahead.

When there's two sets of walking stairs, always take the one going up. After the first set at the start of the track, stick to the right to find a secret passageway cutting through the right wall behind a glass window. Use a Mushroom here and perform a trick on the edge at the end. After you go down the next big stairway, stick to the m iddle and use the flower beds and fountain to get two boosts by doing tricks. After the following stairway, use the ram p for a boost, and veer right (don't use the sm all ram p here), then try to get all three boost pads whitout ram m ing into the cars.

Don't use the blue boosts around the path in this track; they will slow you down for the m ost part. Just take sharp turns around the corners, do tricks on all ram ps and avoid the deep snow. The best place to use the Mushroom s is either after the first ram p so you cut through the snow or over the pit after the path full of bum ps. You can also cut tim e by veering right along the wall before the finish line (at the corner with the Shy Guys).

Here again don't use the blue boosts on the side of the path; they slow you down. There are two ram ps to do tricks on for boosts and a shortcut right after the track with the m ine carts. Just follow the m ine carts to the left and use a Mushroom to speed through the alternate path across the pit, then use the boost pads to accelerate.

Star Cup

After the second turn at the beginning of the race, there is a secret passageway into the building on the right. Veer into the opening, use a Mushroom to go up the stairs and use the ram p at the edge to perform a trick and get a boost.

There are several ram ps to use along the way for boosts, and two sm all shortcuts. It requires a Mushroom on each lap so you'll have to choose between either of the two (best is the second one). The first one is after the first sm all wooden ram p, you can cut through the grass on the right with a Mushroom . The second is in the area with the water flow; use a Mushroom to cut through the grass on the right of the huge red shell (instead of going around with the flow), you'll save a lot of tim e.

There are two m ajor shortcuts here. And you can perform tricks on the tree roots for boosts. Right after the starting/finish line, you'll see an arrow pointing left at the top of the path. On the right of this arrow, there is a fence on the side of the path and it doesn't go all the way. On the right of this fence, there is a path that cuts through the grass and then a couple of boosts. After you fall into the giant net, instead of going straight ahead into the path with the trees, veer to the right or left; there is a secret pathway on both sides with a ram p where you can perform tricks to get a boost right before the finish line.

The only "shortcut" here is after you get through the cave, stick to the right and use the ram p for a boost, then stick to the left and use the otehr ram p. There are several other ram ps you can use through the course also.

Special Cup

After you get out of the cave at the end of the track, do a trick on the ram p to get a boost and instead of turning left into the curve in the path, just continue straight ahead and use one of your Mushroom s to cut through the sand between the big cactus and the wall (right before the finish line); you'll save a lot of tim e. You can also use the fallen pillars as ram ps for boosts.

At the very beginning of the race, right after the starting/finish line, ride up the inclined wall on the right of the road and get on top of it; there is a sm all pathway there with a ram p where you can do a trick and get a boost. Just watch out for the cars as you land.

Not any shortcuts, but a few ram ps you can use for boosts and also, in the last area right before the finish line, you can use the lava bum ps as ram ps for m ore boosts. This is also the best place to use your Mushroom s.

When you get to the area with the two big gaps in the center, you can use one of your Mushroom s to get across the first gap, then do a trick to get a boost and go across the second one. This will save you som e tim e.

Shell Cup

There are two obvious ram ps on an alternate path on the left after the starting line which can be used for boosts. You can use a Mushroom right after the second ram p to get past the water ahead without being slowed down, or you can choose to take the otehr path and cut through the grass on the right corner with a Mushroom instead.

Nothing m uch. Try to stick to the inner edge of the track except for those places with the boosts. You can do a trick on the wooden bridge near the start to get an extra boost.

The shortcut here is a little after the start, there is a turn to the left, and to the right som e kind of ram p at the edge of a gap. You can use a Mushroom here to get over the pit and save the tim e you'd take to turn at the corner. You'll have to veer very hard to the right so you don't fall down ahead though. You can also use the ram p and a trick right before the finish line for a good boost.

Either you use a Mushroom to cut through the grass behind the giant m ushroom at the start, then reach the obvious ram p on the left of the path and do a trick for a boost, or you use the Mushroom to cut through the path of sand/grass right before the giant pipe tunnel (on the left of the path). The later will save you m ore tim e.

Banana Cup

The only ram p in this level is located on the right of the glacier after the starting/finish line. Then there's som e boosts inside the cave ahead. No shortcuts.

There are several spots where you can cut through high water with a Mushroom and save som e tim e, but the best is on the left of the first pink ram p. Instead of the ram p, use a Mushroom to cut through the water to the left where a little isle of sand is. Also always stay close to the left shore instead of going around the patches of grass.

When you get to the m arket place on the shore of the harbor, there is a secret passageway between two buildings on the right, before the two arrows ahead on the path (see pic). Cut through the m ud in this passageway by using one of your Mushroom s, then quickly veer right. If the bridge ahead isn't lowered, you can do a trick on the ram p for a boost.

There are tons of ram ps and bum ps along this path that can be used for boosts by perform ing tricks on them . Right after the second ram p, you can cut through the m ud on the left of the path by using a Mushroom and save a lot of tim e by not doing the whole turn. Also, don't use the blue boosts on the edges of the path; they will slow you.

Leaf Cup

There are two places you can use your Mushroom s to save som e tim e. The first is a bit after the finish line, you can cut through the sand behind the big pyram id on the left of the path. The second is right before the finish line, you can cut through the sand at the right of the path (after the last curve) in direction of the finish line instead of going around the path.

Nothing very helpful here apart from a ram p in the m iddle of the path that you can use for a boost. There are also som e sm all yellow ram ps above the lava pits. Do a trick on each one of them to greatly increase your speed.

In the cave at the end of the track, use a Mushroom to cut through the dark colored ground to the left of the actual path. You'll need to veer to the left quickly so you don't ram into the wall ahead.

Use one of your Mushroom s to cut through the grass behind Chom p (on the left of the path); this saves a lot of tim e. Also near the end you can use the bum ps in the road to get a boost (do a trick) and also the bridge ahead for another boost.

Lightning Cup

Not a big shortcut, but there is a hole in the blocks surrounding the road som ewhere half-way through where you can use a Mushroom to cut through the path on the right and save a bit of tim e.

At the beginning of the track (a little after the finish line), there is an arrow pointing the road that does a big curve around a patch of flowers. Instead of going the long way, just use a Mushroom and cut through the flower patch (at the right of the arrow) to save a lot of tim e. There are som e ram ps in the area where the m oles are that you can also use for boosts but I would rather recom m end keeping the Mushroom s for the first shortcut.

Nothing m uch here. Som e ram ps as you head down the m ountain; use tricks on them for boosts. You can use your Mushroom s on the bridge before the finish line.

Nothing special here either, but it should be noted that you'll save tim e by not staying on the red carpet inside the castle; just cut edges by driving on the floor instead. There are two ram ps on the castle roof part where you can do tricks for boosts, also.

Boost at start
During the countdown at the start of the race, hold the 2 button (wii) or Abutton (gam ecube) as the num "2" starts to ber vanish. If done at the right m ent you will start with a boost. om

Boost after falling


If ever you fall off the road into a pit or water, you will be brought back into the race with a disadvantage. As your vehicle hits the ground, press the 2 button (wii) or Abutton (gam ecube) to get a boost to catch up.

Recover from POW Block


If you see a POW Block appear over your character's head as a opponent uses it, shake the wiim (or press control pad on ote gam ecube) just as the POW Block is about to hit you. If done correctly, you will spin and lose your item but won't lose any speed. ,

Avoid Red Shell


If you hear a Red Shell com at you and have either a Green/Red Shell or a banana on you, hold the button to release your item ing , but do not use it. Keep your finger pressed (L button for gam ecube) on the button and your character will hold the itembehind him The Red Shell will hit the shell or banana instead of you. .
