The protagonist is a rich young man who lives in a luxury mansion in Long Island. Born James Gatz on a farm in North Dakota, he changed his name to Jay Gatsby when he met a millionaire for whom he started working. From that moment, he was fascinated by the possibilities of the American dream, and dedicated his life to making a fortune through bootlegging and other illegal activities. He was in love with a girl from the upper class named Daisy, and he organized fabulous parties to try to impress her. But she would not leave her husband for a nouveau riche. At the end of the story, Gatsby is murdered mistaken by a man whose wife was killed in a road accident caused by Daisy. Nobody came to his funeral, except his neighbour Nick and his father, who gave amore humane image of his son.
