Global warming is the increase in the average measured temperature of the earths near surface air and oceans. Climate model projections summarized by the IPCC indicate that average global surface temperature will likely rise a further 1.1 to 6.4 C during the twenty -first century. This range of values results from the use of differing scenarios of future greenhouse gas emissions as well as models with differing climate sensitivity.

Although most studies focus on the period up to 2100, sea level rise are expected to continue for more than a thousand years even if greenhouse gas levels are stabilized. The delay in reaching equilibrium is a result of the large heat capacity of the oceans. Increasing global temperature is expected to cause sea levels to rise an increase in the intensity of extreme weather events and significant changes to the amount and pattern of precipitations, likely leading to an expense of tropical areas and increased pace of desertifications. Other expected effects of global warming include changes in agriculturals yields, modification of trade routes, glacier retreats, mass species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors. 28. Rains will not fall TEXT 7 Are there Men on other worlds Are there intelligent beings on other planets in our solar system ? Most scientists dont think so. If there are, the only likely place is Mars. It is fun to imagine our kind of human on other worlds, but they would probably look so different we might not recognize them as people at all. Living things have a wonderful way of adapting themselves to conditions around them in order to stay alive. Plants grow in the Arctic. Some simple animals can survive being boiled or frozen. Creatures live in the blackest of the sea under thousands of tons of pressure. We cant really say that our kind of air is the only kind of living things could breathe, or that they must have water or a certain climate. Creatures that breathed other gases or lived in temperatures that would kill earthmen, however, certainly, wouldnt look like us. Are there people anywhere else in the universe ? Maybe there are. In our galaxy there are billions of stars. Some must have planets with condition like those on earth. Somewhere in space there could be other thinking beings. If their planets are older, they may know more than we do. They may be already travelling in space. 32. According to the text above, scientists think that on other planets in our solar system there are A. Probably some of other intelligent beings B. Probably no other intelligent beings C. Certainly some other intelligent beings D. Certainly no other intelligent beings

E. Certainly both intelligent and unintelligent ones.
