Central Co-op Society, one of the largest industrial Co-operative Societies in India, is established in 1969 and has 38 years of meritorious service in the co-operative sector. The society is born and brought up with the active support and initiative of Govt. of Kerala. It is based at Kannur with operational units in the three northern districts of KeralaKannur, Kasargod and Kozhikode. We provide full time employment to 12,000 person s directly and more than one lakh people indirectly through the functional units of beedi rolling, food processing, umbrella assembling, garments making and IT. Since the mission of the KDBWCCS is the upliftment of weaker sections in the society, we are focusing on new ventures, which create more employments. we started a coconut milk extraction unit during 1997, curry powder and pickle unit during 1998 and a fruit processing unit during 1999. Also we started a more labour oriented umbrella assembling unit during 2000. Dinesh Information Technology system (DITS) is the IT unit of KDBWCCS, started in 1999 with state of art facilities namely Dinesh Software Park, well suited for software development, Business processing and outsourcing and training centers. Dinesh Garments is a new venture setup with advanced technology to produce export quality products. PRESENT The Factory in Kerala was conceived to work on larger volumes, and also with options of importing +raw materials. Hence Dinesh Apparels took shape as an Export unit. The Management is from Kerala; hence they understand the culture and people. As a social responsibility they have started working from grass root level to impart training to young girls in various aspects of garment manufacturing. QUALITY CONTROL Efficient quality control system is in place with each operator s defects are being monitored and their efficient recorded. Statistical tools are used and we are focusing for SIX SIGMA Certification within a year. Cutting Department: The cutting department is equipped with Eastman range of Band Knife & Straight Knife cutting equipments. Finishing: We will have state of the art finishing department with following hi-

tech machineries. 1. Ramsons Vacuum Boards with all steam facility 2. Thread sucking machine. Stores: This facility has an area of around 800 sqft of Warehouse for raw materials & finished goods storage. Infrastructure:Our unit is housed in a most modern building with vitrified tile floor and RCC roof with proper ceiling and with excellent facility and convenience for employees. DINESH BEEDI The central society and 18 primary societies were sponsored by the Government of Kerala to rehabilitate large number of beedi workers when private manufacturers from outside the state had closed down their factories in kannur District abruptly, as the government of Kerala decided to implement the provisions of "Beedi & Cigar Workers' Act 1966" in the state with effect from October 1968. Government decided to organize the workers on co-operative basis. The Central Society was to procure raw materials in bulk and also to mobilize financial resources. Beedies were to be manufactured by the primaries, all under one brand. The societies were formally inaugurated on the 15th of February 1969. The Central society acquired 1.26 acres of land with a substantial building at Payyambalam.The Kerala Dinesh Beedi Workers Central Co-op Society manufactures 60 lakhs beedi through its 18 primary societies which includes 8950 workers. Its monthly production of Beedi is about 15 crores and annual production being 180 crores. We pay Rupees 1 Lakh as Excise Duty per day. Wages Distributed is 25 Crores per annum.
