Cloudy2Clear Windows
Service With A Smile!
Its been a crazy
few months for
Cloudy2Clear
Windows. The
company which
specialises in repairing
windows which are
steamed up, broken
or damaged by
replacing the panes
not the frames has
grown rapidly as
homeowners take
advantage of their
services.
Managing Director
Alan Ball feels that its
all about service. Our
product is simple. If
your double glazing
is misted up we can
replace the glass at
a fraction of the cost
of a new window, in
any type of frame,
and with a new 5 year
guarantee. But its not
just about saving people
money, although that
obviously helps. Many
tradespeople have
struggled since last year
and I honestly feel that
during the good times a
minority perhaps didnt
focus on customer
care as much as they
should have done. We
make sure we turn up
when we say we will,
do the job the customer
requires and leave
their house as clean as
a whistle. I often get
comments back from
customers on how they
really didnt expect that
sort of service which,
in a way, is very sad for
the service industry as a
whole.
Cloudy2Clear service
the Chester, Wirral &
North Wales areas and
Alan is fnding that his
approach is a major
factor in his success.
The truth is that its
not just the personal
satisfaction that I get
from doing a good job
but also it makes good
business sense.
I get a huge amount of
business from friends
and family of people
Ive done work for,
which just goes to show
how much a little bit of
effort is appreciated.
So, if your windows
are steamed up, broken
or damaged give Alan a
call for a free quotation
on 0800 61 21 118 and
hell be happy to help!

Recognition for greenway friends
A GROUP of volunteers who look after the
Greenway have been given an award by the
Chester Civic Trust.
Friends of Chester Millennium Greenway
received the award as a result of their work
in tidying up the old railway line which runs
through Hoole.
The greenway is used by so many people,
from cyclists to walkers, joggers and even
commuters, but the volunteers need to work
constantly to keep the path in good shape.
Two of the groups projects are nearing
completion the wildlife pond which is to be
planted up in spring and the dog splash
(already enjoyed tremendously by many of
the dogs - though it is not yet completed)
a waterfall is planned at one end. The
draining rainwater off farm felds is captured
with these two projects and there is less
likelihood of fooding onto the paths.
Said Audrey Hodgkinson, founder of the
group: It is very satisfying to hear and be
thanked, as we clear litter, that so many
people are looking forward to seeing the
spring bulbs fowering. Our annual planting
is around 1000 bulbs. Over 250 small trees
have been planted so far.
We rely mainly on donations and have
limited funds but who knows what the next
project will be?
New volunteers welcome, there is never an
obligation. For further details please email

The frst Acupuncture
Awareness Week was
launched on Monday 27th
February and attempts to
dispel the many myths still
surrounding acupuncture.
In spite of Chinese
medicines ever increasing
popularity, there are still a whole host of
common misconceptions surrounding this
ancient form of treatment.
Traditional acupuncture is a healthcare
system based on ancient principles which
go back nearly 2,000 years.
The overall aim of acupuncture treatment
is to restore the bodys equilibrium.
What makes this system
so uniquely suited to
modern life is that physical,
emotional and mental
health are all seen as
interdependent.
Stress, poor nutrition,
infection or injury,
are amongst the most
common reasons for the body to lose its
equilibrium. By inserting ultra-fne sterile
needles into highly specifc acupuncture
points, an acupuncturist seeks to re-
establish equilibrium to restore balance
and trigger the bodys own natural healing
response to treat the patient.
What can acupuncture treat?
l Do you wish you had more energy?
l Do you want help dealing with stress or
looking after your health?
l Why not kick start your year in the
best possible way with a few sessions of
acupuncture?
The World Health Organisation has listed a
large number of conditions that have been
treated with acupuncture in clinical trials.
These include: Anxiety, Back Pain, Chronic
Fatigue, Chronic Pain, Cystitis, Depression,
Female Fertility, Frozen Shoulder, Headaches,
Insomnia, IBS, Menopausal Symptoms,
Migraines, Nausea, Rheumatoid Arthritis,
Sciatica, Sinusitis, Sports Injuries, Stress,
Substance Misuse, Tennis Elbow and Tinnitus.
See the British Acupuncture Council website
for full details. www.acupuncture.org.uk
Moime Mei-Kuen Lee, Traditional Chinese Medicine (Salford
University) BSC Hons, MBACc has been successfully treating
patients with many of these conditions.

Some thoughts about Hoole by Andy Medcraft
PAINT IT BLACK
W
HILe escaping the biting cold, I found
myself clicking sporadically through
youtube videos and came across an
early Police number. Sting moaned his way
through it in his usual throaty way but only the
opening lines caught me.
Theres a little black spot on the sun today... It played
like a soundtrack, echoing throughout the closing
week of January. I hummed it as I removed the STAFF
WANTED posters the following Monday. They were too
garish and did not match the general feel of the ofce.
Their greens and yellows sat like a smug backdrop to
the latest casualties of the cuts clearing their desks. The
week had dragged its heels since we learned our fate
and yet business seemed to tick on as usual. Ignorance
seemingly the route to eternal happiness. Over excited
squeals and false laughter penetrated the walls. Id been
instructed to put an emergency stop on recruitment but
even this message was mixed with the CEO still dragging
friends of friends in for perspective jobs. Jobs that
existed only in the here and now and have no concrete
foundations in the future.
Skid
And then there was the severe weather warning
that forgot to mention the grey cloud of doom that
accompanied me to and from work. It loitered in the car
park outside waiting, watching the fag breakers come
and go and then tucking in low and close to me on my
short walk home.
As the clock slipped silently past 5pm, I wrapped up
and made my way outside. The roads had iced over
and glistened like tiny stars lining the route back home.
I stepped carefully across the strip of tarmac that
had caught me out so many times in the cold snaps,
throwing my feet of centre and landing me on my arse,
skidding me across the road and into the kerb, caught
perfectly on CCTV and played back for my colleagues
viewing pleasure!
The red bricks of the Hoole terraces cut through the
damp grey of the tarmac, kerbs and sky. Extractor fans
and the over ambitious street lighting turning my road
into a Hitchcock thriller. The rest of the country was
rolled in glitter, turning the serious driving conditions
into a picture postcard.
So, to escape the depression, I ditched the doom at the
front door and made for the Faulkner but instead of the
warm welcome Id grown accustomed to, the windows
were painted up and the place was in darkness. I avoided
looking at the garish orange boards advertising the
coming Sainsburys. My heart sank. The fallback: take
away - so we headed into Charles Street and to the China
Garden (chopsticks optional).
It would appear that 2012 is the year of new beginnings.
My fortune cookie told me to embrace change a subtle
reminder of the promise I made myself at New Year. So,
with that in mind, Im shaking of the rocky start to the
year and I welcome March with open arms.
Relaxation
Today, a crudely photocopied and badly cropped
voucher for a shiny new Faulkner thrust its way through
the letterbox, For twelve quid I get a beef or chicken
dinner for two tomorrow. As a (disgruntled) vegetarian,
the discrimination fag is well and truly waved and
although I want to reserve judgement, I can already
see myself in search of a new local oasis. Maybe the
Brom, the Lodge, the attractive looking Sticky Walnut
or, depending on the result of my lottery win, the Marco
Pierre White Steakhouse/Bar & Grill.
It needs to be somewhere I can feel relaxed.
Somewhere I can trust. I need to be able to develop a
relationship with my oasis. Nurture that relationship
and watch it grow. It needs to be the centre of my Hoole
muse. It needs to be able to cancel out the grey, the
cold and the little black spot on the sun today. One that
understands my dietary needs and doesnt make me
fear for my life at the hands of armed police after taking
several hostages over what I feel is the meaning of extra
cheese. But more importantly, it has to impress my
Mother thats the biggie.
So, the quest begins, right here in my backyard,
wrapping up the larger plants in plastic and bringing
in the smaller ones ready for the change - just as I was
informed by the lady in the Coop. The diet begins, right
here in my kitchen with the gorgeous seeded bread from
Baked its slow release Im told, and thats meant to be
a good thing. Plus Id much rather be digging seeds out
of my teeth for the rest of the day than digging the lost
TV remote from under a roll of fat.
The year starts here, in my Hoole, embracing the
changes. The change starts here in search of my new
oasis. Bring it on...

PITCH AGrEEMENT GIVES rANGErS
A NEW LEASE OF LIFE!
THE fxtures for both teams have been badly affected by weather in the last month. Hoole
Rangers 1st team won their only game 3-2, against Groves Sports & Social FC, who despite
being bottom of the league, have signed a number of new players and gave a very good
performance. This puts us frmly in mid table, but with a number of games in hand we still have
the target of a top three fnish this season
Hoole Rangers Reserves have also played only one game, against league leaders, Peacock
09, and after a sterling performance lost out by a narrow 2-0 margin. Once again, the team has
shown great spirit and with new players coming into the squad, the future looks positive, even if
it comes too late to make a signifcant impact this season.
Pitch improvements
On the club front, things are really starting to progress with respect to the pitch lease. A very
good and positive meeting was held with members of the Cheshire West and Cheshire (CWaC)
council, Reggie Jones, Local councillor and Simon Gerrard, chief executive of Cheshire FA. The
outcome of the meeting was that Hoole Rangers and CWaC will sign a fve-year Management
Agreement of Limewood Fields pitch, allowing Hoole Rangers to remain based there for a
minimum of this period, whilst also giving Hoole the opportunity to make pitch improvements (
subject to approval) over and above the basic maintenance provided by the council. There will
be options to extend this agreement at the end of fve years, or potentially convert it to a full
lease if that becomes appropriate. It is hoped that this agreement will be in place by 1st May
2012, allowing us to make repairs to the ground during the close season. This is an important
frst step in a longer term plan to improve facilities at New Scene.
We continue to train during the week. At the moment it is 8.30 to 9.30pm at Blacon High School
on the all-weather pitches. Any new players who want to come down to training, please contact
us and we will advise when and where the training will be held.

Q. i have a gift voucher for a facial with you and i was
wondering if I should use it before I go on my skiing
holiday next week or wait until I get back. When would I
get the most beneft from it?
A. if you can only have one facial i would always
recommend having it on the return from your holiday.
In fact, I am not a big advocate of doing facials too
close to a holiday, particularly one that will involve
your skin being exposed to a great deal of sunlight
such as skiing or beach holidays. This is because
most facials include exfoliating steps to thoroughly
remove dead skin cells which gives a lovely
bright, fresh look to the skin, but removes
a layer of protection. Keep your dead skin
cells in place for another week, protect
your skin further with a good quality
high protection sunscreen and enjoy the
benefts of your facial at the end of your
holiday. To fnd out more about the types
of facials which are most benefcial post-
holiday visit the march newsletter page of
my website www.angelabartlett.co.uk
Q. I would like to give myself a fresher look
with my makeup routine for Spring. What
can you suggest?
A. Firstly, i would try changing your
foundation for an illuminating tinted
moisturiser which will add a touch of
radiance to your skin tone. I would also
recommend a good eyebrow shape,
eyebrow tint and eyelash tint which will
give you defnition around the eyes without
the need for very much eye makeup. Try
changing your lipstick colour too, swap
muted neutral shades or winter berry
colours for clear, fresh pinks or corals
(depending on your skin colouring) and add
a dab of gloss to fnish. A light sweep of
bronzer on your cheekbones to warm your
cheeks will give you a healthy, natural glow
for a Spring look.

aS the days lengthen new green shoots
get going and the frst fowers appear
on forsythia and ribes sanguineum
or fowering currant. Some camellias
have already fowered in warmer
locations in January before the cold
weather of February. The evergreen
scented Clematis armandii fowers
in March and can be a vigorous plant
capable of covering a wall or fence
once established.
Perennials are starting to grow and if
you have moisture retentive soil, plant
Doronicum or Leopards Bane with bright
yellow daisy like fowers that appear early
in spring. I also love the forget me not blue
and pink fowers of Pulmonaria which
arrive before the superb green, white and
silvery leaves that make such good ground
cover. They are not keen on full sun so plant
them out of direct sun in a shady part of the
garden.
Spring bulbs are at their best so in addition
to the various daffodils and narcissus there
are Scillas and Muscari or Grape Hyacinth. If
you have rich well drained soil try Anemone
blanda with white or blue fowers suitable for
a rock garden or front of the border.
Cut back any remains of dead foliage from
last season. I also go round the whole garden
giving everything a feed of pelleted chicken
manure in March. If you have the energy,
mulch all borders with well rotted manure
after removing all the weeds.
Prune your rose bushes hard, back to
outward facing buds on strong new growth.
Remove the little spindly shoots and cut out
old or dead wood. Then give them a mulch
of organic matter and a good feed of rose
fertilizer.
The vegetable gardening season beckons
so prepare your vegetable plot by digging
it over and removing the weeds then cover
with black polythene to keep the weeds from
germinating and also to warm up the soil
for planting seeds later in the month. Sow
seeds outside such as carrots, broad beans,
lettuces, radishes and peas. Plant out your
frst early potatoes and asparagus tubers.
Make sure you have feece or cloches ready to
protect them from frost. Indoors you can sow
seeds of tomatoes, peppers and chillis on the
windowsill.

G
Iven anything up for Lent this year? A recent poll stated that over
half of all Brits who give something up for Lent dont last the 40
days and give in to temptation!
All of March this year will be in the season of Lent. So what is Lent? It is
the 40-day period before easter, it began on Ash Wednesday (21st Feb)
and includes Palm Sunday (1st April) and ends on Holy Saturday, the
day before easter Sunday (8th April).
The 40 days are called Lent because that is the Old english word
for spring. Sundays are excluded from the adding up of 40 days
because Sunday is the day on which Christ rose from the dead,
so on Sundays we remember and celebrate the resurrection of
Jesus Christ. Why 40 days? 40 is a signifcant number in the Bible:
in Genesis, the food, which destroyed the earth, was brought about
by 40 days and nights of rain; The Hebrews spent 40 years in the
wilderness before reaching the land promised to them by God; and
Jesus spent 40 days fasting in the wilderness in preparation for his
ministry. Most Christians regard Jesus time in the wilderness as the
key event for the duration of Lent.
Today, Lent is marked by opportunities of prayer and refection and
is a time of preparation before we celebrate easter. In many ways
easter is the most important Christian festival in the year, although we tend to give more time
and focus on Christmas. Throughout Lent we can seek to recognize and respond afresh to Gods
presence in our lives and in our world and to consider the offer through the death and resurrection
of Jesus to place our needs, our fears, our failures, our hopes, and our very lives in Gods hands,
again.
Pizza and snacks
Lent, is traditional a time to give up (or fast from) something(s) that we do a lot of and that we
fnd pleasure in. This giving up or fasting is done: as a discipline for learning self-control, to free
our minds from the chase after material things, to tell ourselves no and make it stick; The most
common thing is to fast from food for Lent. For those from a Catholic tradition this means giving up
meats on Fridays for the season, or to fast entirely for one day a week. You might try giving up pizza
or fast food or alcohol or snacks (I wonder if you can do it for the whole 40 days...).
If giving up food isnt much of a task for you, choose something else that you have to make a
serious effort to give up. What about giving up watching Television or maybe not watching your
favourite soap for the 40 days, maybe you should decide to stop gambling, or impulse shopping,
how about not going on Facebook or the internet, or maybe stop living off your credit card and only
spend cash during this month.
However, Lent is not all about giving things up. Its also about adding good things to our lives
or to others lives -- the kind of good things that follow on what Jesus asks of us, especially that
which relates to what were giving up. Try these: Reconcile yourself to someone you dont like, or
even hate or did something bad to, or just intentionally stayed away from. Do acts of kindness for
people, just because the opportunitys there; Try and read a chapter a day from a gospel from the
new Testament, try reading Lukes gospel, here you can read about the life, ministry, death and
resurrection of Jesus. Maybe even go along to a church service during March or consider going
along on easter Sunday to celebrate the end of Lent and considering the most amazing claim ever
made that Jesus actually did rise from the dead!
