BENHA UNIVERSITY BANHA FACULTY OF ENGINEERING MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

M462 MATERIAL TECHNOLOGY 4 YEAR MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DR. SALEH | ENG. ABDALLA MOHAMED
TH

SECTION WORK PLAN

Course Description
The course introduces the student to the following topics: ceramics, polymers, composites, materials hardening & precipitation, diffusion, and new trend materials like nanotechnology and smart materials. Methodologies for material selection in engineering applications is also emphasized. Also, the course prepares students for future studies in more specialized topics within the subject area serving scientific and industrial field as well.

Upon completion, students should be able to do the following: 1. Know the different types of ceramic materials and their applications. 2. Be aware of the different methods of fabrication of composites. 3. Have knowledge of the various structures of ceramics and how it can be a result of ionic or covalent bond or what else. 4. Should be able to learn the different types of composites and how they can be fabricated practically. 5. Know the different types of polymer materials and their applications. 6. Be aware of the different methods of fabrication of polymers and where it can be found in the industrial sector. 7. Have knowledge of the various structures of polymers. 8. Learn who to hardening can be made for different materials. Also, using precipitation method for hardening. 9. Revising diffusion and its effect on the structure of materials. 10. Be aware of the different new trend materials such as nano technology, smart materials, bio materials,,etc.

Course Objectives

This course will use the lecture notes as the main material source. Moreover, students should use other textbooks and references. e.g.: Fundamentals of Materials Science and Engineering, by William D. Callister. Principles of Materials Science and Engineering, by William F. Smith.
