Hi! My name is Jonathan Farnsworth. I live on Farnsworth Angus Farms, Lewisville. I love farming. Last year I joined Monroe County Shooting Sports. I got to go to the Ohio State Fair. The Ohio State Fair is big and has lots of stuff to do. When I went to do my test, I thought it would be hard but it wasn't. I had a lot of fun that year. I would do it again. You should think about shooting sports for a great summer. I would like to thank the instructors, Gene and Linda Van Meenan, for all of their help. I love hunting on the farm and shooting sports has helped me to learn how to shoot safely and accurately.

Just Scrap It

Jonathan Farnsworth

Being in 4-H is a great opportunity. It lets you experience things in an entirely different way. My 4-H group is call the Wild & Crazy Kids. Most of my cousins are in that group. We always have a lot of fun, whether its going camping to the water park or just being at the meetings. Last year I took scrapbooking as my project. I started off not knowing anything about scrapbooking. I took some classes in Woodsfield with a few other girls to get tips on what to use and what to do when you scrapbook. I learned never to use glue on your pictures, to not over crowd the page with pictures and use items like buttons or beads to make the page stand out. When it was time for judging, I was very nervous, but it turned out to be not so bad after all. I received Outstanding of the Day and State Fair Qualifier. The state fair in Columbus was so much fun. I didnt win there, but the rest of the experience was so cool. I got to see all the girls that were in scrapbooking from all around Ohio. I didnt realize so many people liked scrapbooking. I think others should get involved in scrapbooking because there is no limit in creativity and it is a good way to preserve

Lexi Piatt memories over all. I think others should join 4-H because it is a lot of fun and there are so many activities to be a part of.

We Support Monroe County 4-H. Good Luck in 2012!

What Fun Turkeys Are

Thursday, March 1, 2012

I learned a lot about raising turkeys; like baby turkeys need to be kept in a 90 degree building. You also have to be very careful around the babies like where you step. I was very excited when I could take them to the fair. All the hard work paid off because I got Grand Champion. My experience with 4-H and the fair was fun and I think others would enjoy it too if they havent joined already.

Dulcie Christman by Dulcie Christman, 11 MOB Squad

My name is Dulcie Christman and I was crowned the 2011 Junior Fair Princess at the Monroe County Fair. I have been a 4-H member for seven years and am a member of the MOB Squad 4-H Club. My club advisors are Lisa Hartshorn and Tracy Blackstone. My projects include: market goats, market lambs, feeder calves and open class goats. I live with my parents Todd and Robin Christman and my six-year-old brother Cade in Jerusalem. When someone mentions the Monroe County Fair, I immediately get excited because it is one of my most favorite times of the summer. The 2011 Junior Fair was a very memorable time for me. I was so happy and felt very special that I got to be the Princess of the fair. I got to meet and talk to a lot of people. I attended a few parades in the fall and proudly represented the Monroe County Fair. It is so nice to see how family, friends, and everyone involved with 4-H and the fair take time out from their busy lives to come together during one week at the end of the summer and have some fun. When I talk with my friends I cant imagine how differently we spend our summer breaks. I really enjoy my animal projects, but the commitment is more than just a week of the fair. I bought my fair goat April when I was just nine years old and was so excited about developing a friendship with her. She finally had her babies this week and she is a wonderful mother. I cant imagine not having this as a part of my life. It becomes a family thing. My cousin Mikaela is not animal crazy but she showed rabbits and goats with help from us all, and was quite the showman. So, 4-H has a way of bringing families together. We get fresh air, exercise and work our brains without electronics. My family and I have developed such good friendships with so many people through 4-H. Throughout the year when we are in need of animal health advice, these individuals have a wealth of knowledge that have helped us a lot all because of the 4-H family connection.
