The Market Foundation
Love at the Market
make a difference locally. Our employees had so much fun shopping, wrapping and delivering the gifts. One employee received a tag for a 10 year old boy who needed socks, underwear and jeans. She went way beyond that and couldnt resist adding some toys and a hoodie t-shirt to be sure he felt cool It was the highlight . of our holidays! That same sentiment must be what keeps the WAMu employees coming back each year. For the past four years, they have been huge supporters of the Giving Tree and we appreciate their ongoing commitment. Volunteering is another way to show the love. The Market Foundation is Jane, rounded up all the wreaths and organized everything to be ready for next year. Thanks to Valerie, Lynn, Jane and Market businesses for loving the Market Foundation and raising just over $8,000. Our beloved piggies from Pigs on Parade were purchased by swine lovers all over the country, bringing home lots of bacon for the Market Foundation (see story on page 3). One special piggie, Pollack Pig was the beginning of a love affair for Linda Sedgley. She saw him on the sidewalk in front of the Alexis and swooned in delight. Turns out that Pollack Pig brought back fond memories for Linda of a trip to the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, and her first glimpse at a Pollock painting that brought her such joy she was moved to tears. Lindas husband, Rick, decided the pig was a perfect 50th birthday gift and began making secret plans to make sure Pollack Pig was theirs. After making the winning bid on E-bay, Rick and their son Adam (who happens to be a Pike Market Preschool alum) loaded Pollack Pig in a truck and made a grand tour of nostalgic places in Seattlethe familys former homes, the church they were married in, special places Linda loved and documented each in a photo. Of course, their last stop was the Market for a photo of Pollack Pig alongside her namesake, Rachel, the Market piggie bank. Thoinks again to all the pig lovers out there! Donors say they love knowing theyre supporting services for low-income folks. Many new donors included the Market Foundation in their philanthropic giving this year, and we welcome them to our family of donors. Please contact Lynda Woods at lynda@pikeplacemarket.org if you have questions about charitable giving, stock gifts or want to know how your company or community group can be involved.

Love is a many splendored thing and lets count the ways folks showed us they care about the Market. Here we go: Ah & T Insurance held their second annual golf tournament and chose the Pike Market Clinic as the beneficiary. They raised $23,600 towards the Clinic expansion and lots of golfers, their friends and colleagues now know more about the Market Foundation. Each year, the Market Foundation coordinates a Giving Tree with tags for people who otherwise might not celebrate the holidays. The tags are for little ones who need warm mittens, snow boots and puzzles to a working mothers request for a black skirt, size 12 to wear to work and a senior who just needs a cozy hooded sweatshirt. Portico Group, a good neighbor of the Market, generously took tags, then came back for more. Anne ORourke says We were thrilled to know that the Market Foundation had a Giving Tree. These people are right here, in our community, and we wanted to very fortunate to have many dedicated volunteers who work in the office stuffing envelopes, doing data entry, staffing events throughout the year, and much more. One of those volunteers, Valerie, was instrumental in the huge success of this years annual merchant campaign. She contacted Market merchants, encouraging them to support the campaign with their gifts of $75 or more. These gifts were recognized by the red and green banners that flew high over Pike Place and by the wreaths that were displayed at participating Market businesses, which were delivered by another dedicated volunteer, Lynn. Following the holidays, yet another enthusiastic volunteer,

After more than a decades wait, the Pike Market Medical Clinic finally broke ground in January for its newly expanded facility, scheduled to be completed late summer 2008. Expansion will double the number of exam rooms from 6 to 12, bringing the Clinic up to 3 exam rooms per physician. The expansion will also include a provider office, laboratory, waiting area, and a conference room for Downtown FooD Bank group therapy sessions. Without adding staffing, the physical expansion will increase the number of patients seen and decrease appointment wait times.
