Front Page Article

Create an article about an event in your Independent Reading novel as if it is front-page news. Report what happened (the cause) and what will happen next as a result of what happened (the effect). Must be typed. Include a title, columns (just like the newspaper!), and a photo or image (this can be handdrawn, computer-animated, etc. that goes with the article. Include your name under the title of your article. Use an actual front-page of a newspaper as your guide. Create a mural (one large piece of art no smaller than A2) that represents the main characters in the novel. The poses, clothing and props of these characters as well as where they are in the mural should represent who they are as well as their relationships to one another. Consider who should be in the foreground and who should be in the background. You should also consider appropriate facial expressions for each character, clothing, potential props or other accessories and settingwhere are the characters for the purpose of the mural (indoors, outside, in nature) For this project you will create at least four pieces. Choose at least four important passages from the text, write (legibly & neatly) or type one passage on each piece (remember to include page numbers where the passages can be found!), and use images or symbols to illustrate major themes in your novel. The images should connect with each passage youve selected. Show plot & mood: If you were going to be directing a film version of the novel, what songs would you use for the soundtrack? The songs you choose should be arranged in order of the plot and should capture/illustrate the mood of the scenes you are choosing them for. You may want to start by considering the most important scenes and choosing songs that capture these scenes. You may also choose songs that capture the relationships between and among the characters. Finally, you should be able to explain why you have chosen each song and how/why it illustrates the mood of the scene or relationship that it applies to. Write a song about one of the main characters from your Independent Reading novel. The song should have at least three verses (of ten or more lines each) and should show the development of the character over time. Suggestion: think of how the character is in the beginning, middle, and then in the end of the novel. The ballad is a sort of serenade (a celebration in honor) of this character.
