global learner

Global Learner is a program, administered by Canada World Youth (CWY), that enables groups of youths aged 15 and up to participate in short but intense learning experiences in developing countries, through host family living and participation in community service projects. Global Learner is ideal for high school, cegep, university or community youth groups who want to engage in a challenging, enriching and once-in-a-lifetime educational experience. Global Citizenship Education
The focus of CWYs programs is on learning rather than humanitarian action. In keeping with our non-formal education model, Global Learner participants engage as volunteers in community development projects and learn through immersion in family and community life. This framework serves as the backbone for our vision of creating connected, active and engaged global citizens.

Objectives
With Global Learner, education takes place outside of the classroom. Group members and their coordinator define their learning objectives before their departure. The host community serves as the classroom, where participants might for example learn about:

The environmental impacts of local farming practices The advantages and disadvantages of tourism Fair trade and the global coffee market Issues related to water resources and management Or simply brush up on a foreign language!
