WASHINGTON On the eve of a crucial visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, that country's most powerful U.S. advocates are mounting a public campaign to pressure President Barack Obama into hardening U.S. policy toward Iran over its nuclear program. From the corridors of Congress to a gathering of nearly 14,000 U.S. Jews and other supporters of Israel here this weekend, Obama is being buffeted by demands that the U.S. be more aggressive toward Iran and more forthright in supporting Israel in its confrontation with Tehran. While defenders of Israel rally every year at the meeting of the pro-Israel lobbying group, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, this year's gathering has been supercharged by a convergence of election-year politics, a deepening nuclear showdown and the often-fraught relationship between the president and the Israeli prime minister. Obama and Netanyahu both will speak to the group, known as AIPAC, as will the three leading Republican presidential hopefuls, who will appear via satellite from the campaign trail on the morning of Super Tuesday. Republicans have seized on Iran's nuclear ambitions to accuse Obama of being weak in backing a staunch ally and in confronting a bitter foe.

The pressure from an often-hostile Congress also is mounting. A group of influential senators, fresh from a meeting with Netanyahu in Jerusalem, has called on Obama to lay down sharper criteria, known as red lines, about when to act against Iran's nuclear ambitions. We're saying to the administration, You've got a problem; let's fix it, let's get back on message,' said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who took part in the meeting with Netanyahu and said the Israeli leader vented frustration at what he viewed as mixed messages from Washington. It's not just about the Jewish vote and 2012, Graham added. It's about reassuring people who want to avoid war that the United States will do what's necessary. To give teeth to the deterrent threat against Iran, Israel and its backers want Obama to stop urging restraint on Israel and to be more explicit about the circumstances under which the U.S. itself would carry out a strike. In an interview published Friday, Obama reiterated his pledge to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon with force, if necessary and ruled out a policy of accepting but seeking to contain a nuclear-armed Iran. In some surveys, there's strong support for continuing diplomacy. Supporters of Israel argue that in the U.S. news media, Iran's nuclear program has been wrongly framed as Israel's problem, rather than as a threat to the security of the whole world. This is about the devastating impact on U.S. and Western security of a nuclear-armed Iran bent on bullying the region into submission, said Josh Block, a former spokesman for AIPAC. Those false teachers, once St. Paul had left Galatia, moved in with their false teachings of keeping the Law of Moses, in every minute detail, seeking to establish their own righteousness, commingling with the Gospel of Grace, which was not-at-all the same, liberating good news St Paul had proclaimed to the Jews in Galatia. It was, in fact: a perversion of the gospel. I am astonished that you [Galatians] are so quickly deserting him [God] who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospelnot that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed (Galatians 1:6-9). This different gospel, which St Paul was speaking of (above) is not a gospel (i.e., good news), was a distortion of the gospel of Christ, and St Paul proclaimed a curse upon those false teachers, who had crept into the synagogues of Galatia and were putting God to the test by placing a yoke upon the necks of the new Jewish Christians, which neither their fathers nor they were able to bear. This, as St. Paul told them, is contrary to the message he had proclaimed to them: that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus (see also: Acts 15:1-21). Those false teachers were (and are, today, in America) known as Judaizers (Greek: Ioudaizo, meaning: to adopt Jewish customs; see: Galatians 2:14) and were a party of Jewish Christians in the Early Church, who taught that circumcision and the observance of the Mosaic Law were necessary for salvation and in consequence wished to impose them on the Gentile converts, or who at least considered them as still obligatory on the Jewish Christians (see: here). St. Paul wrote to the Jewish Christians in Galatia (which is why we have his letter) today, in order to explain to them the error of those false teachers who were attempting to place the old yoke of the Law of Moses upon these new Christians, not long after St. Paul had left Galatia, explaining to them: We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified. (Galatians 2:15-16). By works of the law no one will be justified. THIS was St. Pauls gospel message, concerning the Law of Moses to the Jewish Christians in Galatia. Those false teachers, the Judaizers, were teaching the Galatians they were justified, or made right with God, by the works of the Law of Moses, and not by faith in Jesus Christ.
