Math

Money identify the value of a penny, nickel, dime, and quarter; determine the value of a collection of pennies, nickels, and dimes whose total value is less than $1 Doubles Facts: 2+2=4, 6+6=12

Social Studies/Science

Review and Assess Famous Americans: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin, and George Washington Carver Animals living/nonliving things, life needs, classification water/land, wild/tame, physical characteristics movement, appendages, and body coverings

Instructional Focus: In Fundations, students are working on mastering the concept of closed syllables. All of the words presented thus far have been closed syllables, so no new word patterns will be taught at this time. Instead, students are working on being able to visually recognize a closed syllable so that they can then apply the short vowel sound to decode the word.

Teacher Tip: This week, we are starting our unit on animals! Talk with your child about different animals that they know and like. How many animals can they name one for every letter of the alphabet? Ask your child about their favorite animal. How many facts can they tell you about that animal? Challenge your child to explain the animals habitat, type of movement, body covering, and appendages!
