Luke 12:15 Jesus said, "Watch out!

! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a mans life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."
Ex 20:3-6-THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME.
In the King James Version of the Bible, there are three different words translated as "idolatry." Each one ( teraphiym , kateidolos and eidololatria ) has at its core the concept of serving or worshipping something other than the one true God. The apostle Paul provides us with a modern application of idolatry in the middle of a sentence in his letter to the Colossians. He mentions "covetousness [greed, New International Version], which is idolatry" (Colossians 3:5).

Romans 1:1832 by contrasting the lie of idolatry and the truth of worship. His thesis statement on all of this is Romans 1:25, which speaks of idolaters who exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. While idolatry manifests itself externally, it originates internally. This is first revealed in Ezekiel 14:18 as God rebukes the elders of Israel who have taken their idols into their hearts.

Idolatry can be defined as "worship or reverence given to any created object or person." It actually takes many forms, not just the "praying to statues" that many people think of when they hear the word "idolatry."
Job did not covet! 1. That he never set his heart upon the wealth of this world. How few prosperous professors can appeal to the Lord, that they have not rejoiced because their gains were great! Through the determination to be rich, numbers ruin their souls, or pierce themselves with many sorrows. 2. He never was guilty of idolatry. The source of idolatry is in the heart, and it corrupts men, and provokes God to send judgments upon a nation. 3. He neither desired nor delighted in the hurt of the worst enemy he had. If others bear malice to us, that will not justify us in bearing malice to them. 4. He had never been unkind to strangers. Hospitality is a Christian duty, 1Pe 4:9. (Job 31:33-40)
"Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink and be merry" (Luke 12:19)

Jesus Christ warned the people of His day: "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses" (Luke 12:15). For example, the Hebrew chamad , which is used in the Tenth Commandment, means "to greatly delight in" and can refer to a legitimate desire as well as immoral greed. Also translated as "covetousness" (Exodus 18:21), the Hebrew word betsa means to plunder, to acquire or possess an insatiable desire for dishonest gain. Greek words translated "covetousness" in the New Testament convey "greed," "setting the heart upon," "longing" or "lusting for." God describes a man who pays deference to an inanimate object and cries, "Deliver me, for you are my god!" (Isaiah 44:17)

Gods Word teaches that "the covetous cannot enter the Kingdom of God" (1 Cor. 6:10; Eph. 5:5). "The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil" (1 Tim. 6:10) One of the reasons that the sin of covetousness is so dangerous is that it is Gods number one competitor and Jesus was very clear that you cannot serve God and money (Matt. 6:24)! Paul says that covetousness leads to many sorrows (1 Tim. 6:10) "The deceitfulness of riches." Why are riches so deceitful? (Matt13:22, Mark4:18) In Joshua 7, a single act of covetousness on the part of one man was enough for the entire army of Israel to suffer a horrific defeat (Josh. 7). Do you remember his name? Achan. What did King David do when he was watching Bathsheba bath herself? He was coveting his neighbor wife. And as we know this led to pregnancy, a murder to cover up the sin and severe repercussion for David, his entire family and the entire nation of Israel. Hebrews 13:5 "Keep your lives free from covetousness [the love of money] and be content with what you have, because God has said, Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
