1. Red Hat opens Dubai Office
Red Hat has announced the expansion of its international presence with the opening of an office in
Dubai. The new office will provide support for its growing customer base in the Middle East and
Africa and enable Red Hat to leverage experts with local knowledge to meet new business demands
in the region.

for Debian packages. please consider contributing screenshots of your favorite applications.
Currently there are already over 260 screenshots available but there is still some way to go.
Everybody can upload screenshots you don't have to be a Debian developer or Debian maintainer
to help. Your uploads will just be checked by the admin team and then published.

3. Creative Gives In, They OpenSource Their XFi Driver
The Sound Blaster XFi sound card driver for Linux from Creative Labs was awful. That's simply
the nicest way to put it. The driver was home to many bugs, initially only supported 64bit Linux,
and it was arriving extremely late. The opensource drivers supporting the Creative XFi drivers
have also been at a stand still. However, Creative Labs has finally turned this situation around and
they have opensourced the code to this notorious driver. The sourcecode for the Creative XFi
driver is now licensed under the GNU GPLv2.

4. RMS visit to Bangalore
Richard.M.Stallman (RMS), the founder of Free Software
Foundation, will be in Bangalore from 12th to 14th (tentative)
December 2008. Following this, FSUG Bangalore along with
RV College of Engineering has plans to organize a set of events
and would like to hear from Free Software enthusiasts around in
Bangalore about various possibilities of their participation
during this occasion.

5. 50 MustHave Open Source Tools for Security
The area of open source security software is growing rapidly, with a cornucopia of apps for every
use: antispam, firewalls, forensics, encryption, log monitoring, passwords – the list is growing even
as you read this.

MySQL configuration and make recommendations for increased performance and stability. Within
seconds, it will display statistics about your MySQL installation and the areas where it can be

8. Red Hat Fedora Linux: 9.5 Million Users and Growing

9. World's smallest humanoid robot can run Linux
Mobisense is shipping a Linuxready, robottargeted
"MBS270520" singleboard computer (SBC) that can control
small robots such as Tomy's iSobot. The 6.5inchtall iSobot has
been dubbed "the smallest humanoid robot in production" by
Guinness World Records, says Tomy.

10. A free seminar on FOSS Employment Opportunities on 29th Nov 08 in Chennai
NRCFOSS, in association with Indian Linux Users' Group Chennai (ILUGC) and the Computer
Society of MIT, is organising a free seminar on "Employment Opportunities in Open Source
Software" on Saturday, 29th November 2008. The seminar, to be held at Rajam Hall, MIT Campus,
Anna University Chennai, Chromepet, Chennai 44, will be inaugurated by Prof. P. Mannar
Jawahar, Vice Chancellor, Anna University, Chennai. The topics will include : What FOSS is, How
industry uses FOSS, How FOSS knowledge leads to job opportunities and How one could get
trained in FOSS. The speakers will be from NRCFOSS, FOSS community, industry and training
groups.
Topic : Employment Opportunities in Open Source Software
Date : Saturday, 29th November 2008

The seminar is free and is particularly useful to final year students, passed out students and working
