Operation / Activity description: Welding/Grinding Operation / Activity Stage Using of grinder, cutting torch, welding machine. Possible Hazardous Situations Combining combustible material with fire sources Sparks around, fire hazard

Indicate Necessary Measures to be Taken Combustible material to be properly stored away from ignition sources - good housekeeping needed Fire extinguisher shall be available in all the area as specified by the SWP 006 of HSE Manual Clear area before start to use grinder, remove combustible and flammable material if present. If impossible to remove cover it with fire blanket Check with gas tester presence of gas during hot work at the place No welding to take place in the vicinity of flammable materials Welding cables to be free from breaks / barewires Store different type of bottles in different places do not mix Store bottles in up-right position Gas bottles to be kept away from other bottles All bottles to be kept at 20 m from ignition point Gas bottles to be handled only by trained crew Check bottles before connecting them. Use gas sniffer if any doubt arise Never drop or hit acetylene bottles Ensure that gas cylinder not in use are provided with the proper cap to protect the valve Never allow oxygen to come into contact with greases, oil or any combustible material Only authorised welder to operate on welding equipment Train personnel involved in welding operations with regards to welding safety rules Use and maintenance

of PPE Inhalation of poisonous fumes Conflicting with other work Welder / helper injured Operations shall be performed in open space or using proper fume extractor or blower All works shall not be performed without proper permit to work Welder to use suitable PPE while welding Welder must ensure that helper wears suitable PPE during work Use only dry gloves Ensure adequate earthing of plant Ensure current return is properly grounded
