Padmashree Dr. D.Y. Patil University was established under the section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 vide notification no F.9.21/2000-U.3 dated 20.06.2002 of the Government of India. The University is a member of The Association of Indian Universities (AIU). Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil Universitys Department of Business Management (DYPDBM) has been established with an aim to provide quality management education fulfilling the needs of the corporate world. The learning ambience at DYPDBM provides ample opportunity to the students for enhancing managerial skills and to develop ones personality for a challenging future. DYPDBM ranks amongst the premium B-schools of the country. In what areas is the PhD degree awarded? The PhD degree is awarded in the area of BUSINESS MANAGEMENT. Is the PhD degree awarded by the Padmashree Dr. D Y Patil University, Navi Mumbai recognized by UGC? The PhD degree awarded by the Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil University, Navi Mumbai is recognized by the UGC.

What is the Eligibility Criteria for admission?


Any candidate who holds a Masters Degree from a recognized university (recognized by UGC or any such statutory body) with 55% will be eligible for registration for the M.Phil program. The Masters degree should be either a two year full time program or a three year part time program from a recognized university/approved college. The candidate having the above qualification and serving in an educational, research or an industrial institution recognized by the University for the purpose will also be eligible for registration while working at the said institution. What is the selection process for the PhD Program?

The Application form may be downloaded from the website or can be obtained from the Departments Office (on any working day and during the office hours of the department) and submitted to the department along with the necessary documents and a fee of Rs. 1500 /- (non refundable) being the charges for processing the application. The processing fee may be payable by cash or by Demand Draft drawn in favor of Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil University, Department of Business Management payable at Navi Mumbai. (Add Rs.100/- for outstation students towards postal charges). The basis for selection will be (1) Written Examination (Multiple Choice Questions) and (2) Presentation and Personal Interview. The Written Examination will carry a weightage of around 30% while the Presentation and Personal Interview will carry a weightage of around 70%

What are the documents that need to be submitted?


At the time of submission of the forms the following documents are needed: 1. All Mark Sheets and Passing Certificate (attested copies) 2. Proof of Residence 3. Two Passport sized photographs After you have been selected and at the time of filling the enrollment form the following documents have to be submitted: 1. Original Mark sheets and Passing Certificates 2. Proof of Residence 3. Domicile Certificate 4. Transfer Certificate* 5. Migration Certificate * and 6. The First Years Fees For further details with respect to the Transfer and Migration Certificate please contact the DYPDBM Office who will guide you. Please note that synopsis / thesis cannot be submitted if the above documents are not in place. Is there any time period for completing the PhD program? The minimum time required for completing the PhD program is 3 years and the maximum time available for completing the PhD program is 5 years. If the student does not complete the PhD program within a period of 5 years, then his / her registration is cancelled and the student has to re register himself as a fresh student.

What are the procedure and the Timelines for obtaining the PhD degree?

Please note that in the case of Jan June batch the above timelines will be shifted by 6 months. Also please note that these timelines are only indicative in nature. Submission of the Synopsis / Thesis is dependant on the candidate, Guide and the Head of Department (HOD). What are the important aspects of the course work? The course work is to be carried out for 1 semester and for 3 subjects viz. 1. Theory Paper: Recent Trends in Business Management (100 marks) 2. Research Methodology including Statisticstheory and application (100 marks) 3. Two Seminars (comprising of 25 marks each) and a seminar on the review of published literature (50 marks) The minimum marks required for clearing the course work is 50% in each of the papers. Normally classes are held for the coursework and attendance is compulsory. A Minimum of 75% attendance is required at these course work classes. Please note that the student will not be allowed to submit the synopsis if he / she does not clear his course work exam. Does the student have to publish any research papers? Yes the student has to submit at least two Research papers per year in an area which is relevant and related to his topic of research. Without this the student will not be able to submit his synopsis. The research paper has to be published in ISSN journals. In the case of DYPDBM, the following publications (all ISSN journals) are also considered for the 1. DYPDBM International Business Management Research Journal, 2. UGAM and 3. DYPDBM International Entrepreneurial Management and Research Review

Additionally Presentations at the International Research Conferences for e.g at the Inernational Conference on Retail Management and Entrepreneurship Management conducted by DYPDBM are also accepted What are the important aspects of the Faculty Review Committee (FRC)? The objective of the FRC is essentially to 1. Understand the work done by the Research Scholar and 2. Offer course correction / Expert Advice The FRC normally comprises of the following members: 1. The Head of the department 2. The Research Guide 3. One or two Outside Experts in the field The FRC is normally conducted once in six months and attendance at the FRC is compulsory. Proof of attendance has to be submitted at the time of submission of the synopsis. How many seats are available for this program? The total number of seats available per batch is around 15 Are there are any scholarships available for this program? Yes a few scholarships are available but these are based on merit cum means and are available at the sole discretion of the management. What will be the fees for the course? Currently the fees for the course will be Rs. 75000/- p.a. additionally an amount of Rs. 5000/- and Rs. 2000/- as Enrollment and Library Fees will have to be paid in the first year only.
