Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore State Level English Elocution Competition

Department of English has been organizing student-oriented activities for more than one decade. Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore State Level English Elocution Competition is an attempt to provide a platform to college students express themselves in English with eloquence and fluency. The Competition was organized on 21st January 2012. The Chief Guest for the inaugural function was Dr.Sunil Sawant from Kisan Veer College, Wai, Dist- Satara. Prof.Rajaram Choudhar offered his presidential address. The topics for the elocution competition were current issues were as follows. 1.Supremacy of Parliament: A Myth or Reality 2. Female Exploitation in Media 3. Social Networking and Freedom of Expression 4.The Future of Higher Education in India 5. Tradition and Modernity in Tagore s Writing This Competition received really amazing response from the colleges across Maharashtra. 26 students from different parts of Maharashtra participated in the Competition. The First Prize was won by student of English Department of Vidya Pratishthan s Arts, Science and Commerce College Pragati Bhapkar from M.A. English class. The Second Prize went to Manali Chinchkar from T.C. College ,Baramati and Third Prize to Nanaseb Varkad of Vidya Pratishthan s College of Education. The main attraction of the Competition was Prof. K.S.Iyer Trophy and it was won by the team of A.K.K Law Academy, Pune . The very strenuous task of evaluation was done by three judges from different Colleges. Prof Keshav Borkar from Ale College, Junnar, Prof Suvarna Ware from Tilak College of Education and Prof.Dhanesh Karche from Vidya Pratishthan s Adhyapak Mahavidyalaya, Baramati were the judges for the Competition. The Principal of the College, Dr.Arun Adsool had special interest in organizing student-centred activities. Therefore, he supported the activity with great enthusiasm. The head of the Department Prof. Rajkumar Kadam was the guiding star of this Elocution competition. And a man for all season, that is, Prof. Sanjay Khilare was performing Herculean task in this Competition. Prof. Ramhari Zanzurne and Prof. Dadasaheb Magar executed the assigned task very smoothly and enthusiasm. Teachers from other departments of Arts Faculty graced the function with their presence. Shri. Vijay Rasal, Sadanand Pawar, Sarang Dixit and Nandkumar Shitole from non-teaching staff were the actors behind the screen. Their cooperation and support was eased the functioning of activity. And the students of Department of English responded the activity with a lot of enthusiasm . So I need to thank all these people , without whose support it would have been impossible to organize such activity.
