Mayors Message
I am pleased to announce the introduction of a new form of recognition of citizen commitment: the Mayor of Montrals Democracy Award. With this new award to be presented for the first time on May 17, 2012, Montral confirms its desire to strengthen and promote municipal democracy. The award joins numerous other endeavours by the Ville de Montral over the last ten years aimed at fostering the development of municipal democracy. These include the Montral Charter of Rights and Responsibilities, the right of initiative to public consultation, the Office de consultation publique de Montral, the Montral Ombudsman, the Council standing committees and the advisory boards. The Mayor of Montrals Democracy Award is the result of a collaborative effort between Montral and the Task Force on Democracy. I invite you to recognize the commitment of a Montral individual, group of people or organization whose actions have helped strengthen democracy and citizenship in Montral. You can honour them by nominating them and their accomplishments will subsequently be recognized and perpetuated throughout the community.

For having helped to strengthen democracy and citizenship in Montral

The award will be presented every year on May 17, the anniversary of the founding of Montral. The winner will be chosen by a jury composed of various elected officials, Montral personalities, and representatives of civil society organizations and the Task Force on Democracy. The first Mayor of Montrals Democracy Award will be presented on May 17, 2012, during a ceremony at City Hall. The winner will receive a work of art.
