UNIVERSITY FELLOW AND FULL PROFESSOR DR. LEONILA ABELLLA, who
currently serves as director for College of Engineering Research and Advanced Studies, received the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (PIChE) Fellow award last February 16 during the 72nd PIChE National Convention at the LFisher Hotel in Bacolod City. PIChE is the official professional organization of chemical engineers in the Philippines. It is the recognized Accredited Professional Organization for Chemical Engineering profession by the Professional Regulation Commission. As a researcher, Abella has attended numerous conferences within the Philippines and abroad. Her research had been included in ISI-listed and refereed abstracted journals published both locally and internationally. The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) also tapped Abella as a resource person in evaluating different higher education institutions as Centers of Development from 2008 to 2009.

Archery club wins tri-meet


THE DE LA SALLE ARCHERY TEAM
won the overall championship at the Tri-Meet Archery competition held last January 22 at the FR Sevilla Archery Range in Novaliches. DLSU won against University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University. Members of the team placed 1st and 2nd in the Individual Mens Compound Division; 1st and 2nd in the Individual Mens Recurve Division; 2nd in the The formation of the winning team started in 2004, with Coach Beloy Magat, a faculty member of the PE department, serving as adviser to the team. Google holds competition for students

The competition called for students to make a Google+ account, their social network application, and invite as many people to their circles. 2012 Job Expo


DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS and recent graduates
filled the Yuchengco Lobby and Central Plaza last January 30-February 3 as the University welcomed over 100 companies from various industries for the bi-annual Job Expo. Dr. Kit Bonnet, coordinator for Job Placement Services, said that the Job Expo has always been successful in its goal to provide the best venue for graduating students to scout the best job and make choices for their future. The weeklong event likewise served as a venue for students taking their majors to look for internship programs. It also featured various company booths and exhibits, as well as guest lectures and seminars.

Outstanding Chemical Engineer


GOKONGWEI COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING DEAN AND UNIVERSITY FELLOW DR. PAG-ASA GASPILLO HAS BEEN CHOSEN as Outstanding
Chemical Engineer for Chemical Engineering Education by the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (PIChE). Gaspillo has received numerous awards in the past for her prolific research work on topics such as water and wastewater engineering technologies, toxic and hazardous waste handling, treatment, and disposal, and solid waste management. She recently completed the paper, De La Salle University: Sewerage and Sanitation System Status, which is featured in a series of Forums on Environmental Research by the University Research Coordination Office. In a message to the University, Gaspillo said, Truly, it is a privilege to be part of the De La Salle University family. DLSU has provided the avenue to hone my leadership skills in education and administration. The awarding ceremonies will be held at the opening program of the 73rd PIChE National Convention at the Tavern Hotel, Surigao City on February 15.

DLSU holds first Environment Week


MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY joined in De La Salle
Universitys first Environment Week celebration held last January 16-20. Part of the activities was the observance of the feast day of Saint Brother Jaime Hilario, a Christian Brother who retired as a gardener and was martyred during the Spanish civil war, on January 18. Spearheaded by the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Services and the Campus Sustainability Office, the celebration included meeting with the Task Force Safe School (TFSS) and the immediate barangays to do the groundwork for Green Zone Project. Green Zone Project aims to come up with a working model that can transform a local urban area into a sustainable environment. A group of 78 student leaders and faculty advisers from 14 different La Salle schools also visited the campus for The Green Leaders Conference, held at the Br. Andrew Gonzalez Hall. Also part of the weeklong event was an environmental exhibit at the Central Plaza, SJ Walk and Velasco driveway.
