The staff and existing students at the Dubai Campus of Heriot-Watt University are looking forward to welcoming you to one of our
programmes. To ensure that your application can be processed as quickly as possible, please read the guidelines below, as well as

Guidance Notes on Completing this Form

1. • All applicants must complete Section A and Section D and ensure your application is clear and legible.
• If you are applying for an undergraduate degree (e.g. BEng/BSc/BA/BBA) you must also complete Section B.
• If you are applying for a postgraduate degree (MSc/PG Dip) you must also complete Section C.
2. You must provide official documentary proof of degrees, diplomas and other qualifications. These documents must either be
originals (which will be returned to you in due course) or verified copies.
3. Please note that due to UAE visa regulations, undergraduate students must be under 25 years of age when they complete
their studies.
4. Undergraduate students must provide two academic references. Postgraduate students should also try to provide two
academic references. If this is not possible (for example if you have been out of education for more than three years) you
may provide two work-related references as an alternative.

How to write a Reference?
The person who writes a reference for you should know you well enough to write about you. References from family, other relatives
or friends are not accepted. If you are at school or college, or have only left recently, you should ask your head teacher, principal or
an appropriate teacher or tutor to write this.

Guidance for Referees:

We would appreciate if you could use your letter headed paper. Please give an assessment of the suitability of the applicant for the
higher education courses they have applied for and where possible, including the following points:
• Existing achievement, with particular reference to subjects relating to the courses for which they have applied
• Acadmic potential, including predicted results or performance
• Motivation and commitment towards the chosen course
• Any relevant skills achievement, whether certified or not
• Powers of analysis and independent thought
• Any additional factors which may have affected, or will affect in the future, their performance
• Information about any special needs and other requirements

General Guidance
1 You must complete the application form (this can be downloaded from our website) and send it to the Admissions Office of
Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus either directly, or through an authorised agent, or through Eikon, our Infrastructure
Provider. Please ensure that all required sections are completed. The application form may be sent either by regular post, by
courier, or delivered in person. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept completed aplications via e-mail
2 Please ensure that you have enclosed all the required documents (see checklist given in the application form) along with the
application form itself. Incomplete applications will be returned to you. Only fully complete applications and documentation
sets will be forwarded to Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh for consideration. Full details of all requirements are set out in
the form itself.
3 You will be asked to pay an administration charge of AED 200 to cover the costs of processing your application. Applications
sent without fee will not be processed. You will need to meet any bank charges incurred for any fees paid through credit
card, bank/telegraphic transfer etc. in addition to the fee itself. You must also send a copy of the funds Telegraphic
Transfer Issuing Advice, along with the application form, to help identify your payment. Please check with your bank when
transferring the funds for details. If you are applying for an undergraduate course of study you will also be asked to pay a
refundable security deposit of AED 1000.
4 You must fill separate application forms, and pay separate application fees, for each individual course you wish to apply for.

5 A decision on your application will be communicated to you as soon as possible. If you are accepted, an offer of a place of
study will be made and you will be invited to accept this offer by returning the relevant acceptance form.
6 In some cases an offer may be conditional. Where this is the case you will be informed of any additional requirements before
an unconditional offer can be made. In this case please liaise closely with the Admissions staff to ensure that all conditions
can be lifted as quickly as possible.
7 On your acceptance of the offer, you will be required to pay the tuition fees. International students will be required to pay the
full tuition fee for the academic year in advance.However,if you are based in the UAE an instalment payment plan is available
allowing you to pay 10% of the annual fees followed by 9 equal instalments, supported by post dated cheques. The 10%
annual tuition fee must be paid within 2 weeks from the date of offer. (For more details of the payment options, please see
the section on Fees below)
8 In case a cheque is dishonoured, you will be liable to pay a fine of AED 500 in addition to any penalty charges your bank (s)
may levy.
9 If you wish to use the transport and accommodation facilities provided by the University please complete the transportation
request form and the accommodation request form and submit it to Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus at least three
weeks prior to the start of the course. Providing transport and accommodation facilities is at the discretion of Heriot-Watt
University Dubai Campus management, and these services will be made available only if found feasible.
10 You must pay Transport fees every semester and Student Accommodation fees in full for the whole academic year in advance
(see below).
11 Staff at the Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus will process your visa application and inform you on receiving the visa. It is
important to inform the University of your arrival details at least 10 days in advance. Your visa will then be deposited at your
airport of arrival.

All fees are given in AED. For payments in either US $ or UK Pound Sterling, please ask the Admissions staff.
* Per course on campus. 7 core courses and a minimum of 2 electives. The specialist MBA options require a minimum of four
elective courses to be studied. From 2007/8 at least 2 of the 25 elective courses will also be available on campus and the fee for
these will be the same as for core courses. An exam fee of UK Pound Sterling 100 per course is also applicable for MBA students.
Note: Students, who are made an offer of a place from Heriot-Watt University Dubai campus, need to pay the first installment of
their fees (equivalent to 10% of the first year fee) at the time of accepting the offer in order to secure a place on the course.

provided in fully-furnished apartments on a sharing basis. There are separate apartments for male and female students.

There are a limited number of spaces available and bookings are confirmed only when we receive the completed Accommodation
Application Form, full payment of accommodation fees and full payment of the relevant tuition fees. All of these payments must be
received at least 30 days before your course begins. There is no refund for early departure from the Residences for any reason. The
security deposit is refundable at the end of the program after deduction towards damages/loss of items, if any, caused by student.)

Student Transport
Transport is available for both semesters per year, subject to a minimum number of students and only if found feasible. Transport
fees are payable for the entire year in two instalments. The first instalment should be paid 30 days before the start of the course
and the second instalment should be paid as a post-dated cheque, 30 days prior to the start of the second semester. Regrettably
transport fees are non-refundable.
