The Media and Entertainment (M&E) industry in India recorded revenues of US$ 16.

3 billion in 2010 and is expected to be in excess of US$ 25 billion in the next four years, according to an Ernst & Young report Spotlight on India's Entertainment Economy.' Factors responsible for growth in Media and Entertainment industry: Growing digitisation, media consumption and improving demographics are the most important drivers responsible for the growth of this industry. India has more than 600 television channels, 100 million pay-television households, 70,000 newspapers and produces more than 1,000 films annually.

According to released FICCI-KPMG report on Indian Media & Entertainment Industry. Total Advertising spends stood at USD 5.9 billion, witnessing excellent growth of 17% over 2009. The ad spends now account for 41% of overall Media & Entertainment market in India.

Following are the key highlights of the report:

Television:
Television industry grew by 15.5 percent in 2010 Television households to surge to 156 million by 2015 Advertising revenues to touch $4.5 billion Subscription revenues to touch $9.25 billion

Television Sector in India


Television Industry in India has gained new momentum due to liberalization and enhanced enthusiasm shown by the broadcasters to seize a huge share of the entertainment and media industry. In 2010, the television industry stood at a staggering US$ 6.5 billion, a rise of 15.6 per cent over 2009 estimate of US$ 5.7 billion. The industry is projected to grow at a CAGR of 16 per cent to US$ 13.9 billion by 2015. Growth of TV channels: The total number of TV channels (both private and government owned) grew from 461 in 2009 to 626 in January 2011. The number of News and Current Affairs channels was 312 and that of Non-News and Current Affairs channels was 314 up till January 2011. Foreign Broadcasters: A total of 75 channels have been down-linked till January 2011 by a number of foreign broadcasters. Direct To Home (DTH) Service: DD DIRECT+ is India's first and only FTA Direct-To-Home (DTH) service being provided by Prasar Bharati (a public service broadcaster). Apart from Prasar Bharati, Dish TV India Ltd., Tata Sky Ltd, and Sun Direct TV Pvt. Ltd., Reliance Big TV Pvt. Ltd., Bharti Telemedia Ltd and Bharat Business Channel Ltd have also been granted license for operating DTH services. HD Growth Wave: Another trend witnessed in 2010 was the entry of HD channels. Apart from 'Food First', India's first HD food channel, 'Movies Now' was also launched in HD. Doordarshan broadcasted the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in HD format. Sports, Movies and Events are expected to be the key demand drivers for HD content. India currently has channels like NGC HD, Discovery World HD, Star Plus HD, Zee TV HD, and two Tamil HD channels and others are expected. DTH operators like SUN Direct, Tata Sky, Dish TV and Reliance BIG TV are heavily promoting their HD services in India .

Radhika Roy
Executive Co-Chairperson

Radhika Roy is guiding vision and the force behind NDTV and has been responsible for leading NDTV's tremendous growth since inception. With her editorial and production expertise, Radhika advises her team to set benchmarks in programming formats. Radhika Roy has over ten years of experience in print journalism, with leading publications such as Indian Express and India Today. In the mid-80s, she recognized the endless possibilities that TV offered as a news medium and co-founded NDTV. Radhika has won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for the Information, Communication and Entertainment in the year 2003. 3. Mr K.V.L Narayan Rao, Executive Vice Chairperson Along with Prannoy and Radhika, Narayan Rao has played a vital role in the transition and growth of NDTV from a production house to a broadcaster. Narayan Rao, as Chief Executive Officer, has guided the organisation admirably, seeing it through difficult, competitive times and ensuring that NDTV is now on an even keel with a brand and a reputation as India's leading media company. He has been with NDTV since 1995 and has been responsible for the Human Resources, Administration and Operations of the Company. Narayan Rao started his career as a journalist with the Indian Express, before joining the Indian Revenue Service. He now takes on a new and even more challenging role in the organisation, in the Chairperson Group as Executive Vice-Chairperson, NDTV 4. Mr Vikramaditya Chandra , Group CEO & Executive Director Vikramaditya Chandra has been associated with NDTV since 1994 and is not only one of India's leading news personalities and anchors, but has also taken on corporate responsibility for several years. He headed NDTV Profit from its creation and led it to become India's leading business channel. Vikram then became CEO of NDTV Networks.

As one of India's best known anchorpersons he presents 'The Big Fight', which has long been one of India's top rated news and current affairs programmes and 'Gadget Guru' along with several other special shows. As a special correspondent, he has extensively covered the Siachen & Kargil wars, and the conflict in Kashmir. Vikram has been named "Global Leader for Tomorrow" and a 'Young Global Leader' by the World Economic Forum in Davos; has won the Indian Television Academy Award 2008 for "Best Anchor for a Talk Show", the Hero Honda Award for Best Anchorperson and the Teacher's Achievement Award for Communication. He has been one of the pioneers in social programming for public interest and has anchored three GREENATHON's that raised money for solar lanterns and is now involved with the "Save our Tigers" campaign. As Chief Executive Officer, NDTV Group, Vikram will have overall authority and responsibility for all aspects of the company: corporate, operational and channel performance. Vikram has become a member of the NDTV Board w.e.f. November 1, 2011. 5. Mr Amal Ganguli, Non-Executive Independent Director

Mr. Amal Ganguli is a scholar and is widely experienced. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He is also a member of New Delhi Chapter, Institute of Internal Auditors (Florida),FBIM, Alumnus-IMI (Geneva)- Course on Strategy. Mr. Amal Ganguli has been Qualified Senior Accountant/ Assistant Manager (1962-64) with Griffin Stone Moscrop & Co., Chartered Accountants, London & Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. London. He has been Manager, with Price Waterhouse Peat & Co., India (1964-1969). Mr.Ganguli has been partner with Price Waterhouse Peat & Co./ Price Waterhouse / Price Waterhouse Coopers, India (1969-2003). Mr. Amal Ganguli has a wide range of experience in the fields of Statutory Audits, Internal audits, Management audits, Corporate and Management reviews, Reviews and implementation of systems, Organisations and procedures, Mergers and acquisitions, Scheme of Amalgamations, Company reorganizations and reconstructions, Dispute analysis and resolution, Income Tax, International Income tax, Joint Venture structures and Agreements, Cross Border Investments/ Projects, Consulting projects funded by International Funding Agencies, Corporate Governance- structures, systems and procedures, Board level involvement as independent Board member. Mrs. Indrani Roy is Peace Works Coordinator, Seagull Foundation for the Arts from 2003. She is also Member, Managing Committee of International Institute for Poverty Awareness & Education . Mrs. Roy is Trustee, Lilabati Day Memorial Trust. 7. Mr Vijaya Bhaskar Menon, Non-Executive Independent Director Mr Vijaya Bhaskar Menon, now a citizen of the United States, was born in India where he received a B.A. Honours degree from the University of Delhi. He earned a Masters degree from Christ Church, Oxford University, and joined EMI Limited in London. He was appointed Chairman, Managing Director and Chief Executive of EMI's Indian subsidiary in 1964 and represented EMI as a Director on the Boards of several subsidiary and associated companies including Capitol Industries in the U.S.A. and Toshiba EMI Limited in Japan. Mr Menon has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of Capitol Industries Inc, a Director of the parent Board of EMI Limited, Chairman of the Board of Capitol Industries Inc, the President and Chief Executive Officer of all its operating companies in North America including Capitol Records, the Merco & MusicDen Retail Group, Capitol Magnetic Products division, and of the Screen Gems and ColGems music publishing companies and United Artists Records. He has been the Chairman of EMI Films Inc and EMI Television Programs Inc., and Chairman and President of the International Federation of the Phonographic 'Industry' IFPI), and a Director on the Board of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In July 1990, Mr Menon was appointed to the rank of "Chevalier De L'Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres"(Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters) by the French Minister of Culture. Mr Menon is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of I.M.I.Inc. (International Media Investments) providing investment support and consultancy services for new and developing creative ventures in the entertainment, media and leisure businesses. He serves as a Director on the Boards of corporations in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

Ajay Mankotia
President, Corporate Planning and OperationsNDTV Group Ajay oversees Corporate Planning and Strategy and the Shared Services Centre. In addition he is also in charge of compliance, including tax planning across the Group. Prior to his appointment in NDTV, Ajay was with the Indian Revenue Service and has 25 years of significant experience in all aspects of tax policy and administration.

Smeeta Chakrabarti
Chief Executive Officer NDTV Lifestyle & Head of Operations NDTV News Smeeta has been with NDTV since inception and has handled production of its pioneering shows and channels.

As Head of Operations for the Group, she is the guiding force behind the quality programming of the three news channels NDTV 24x7, NDTV India and NDTV Profit. In her role as CEO of NDTV Lifestyle, Smeeta is responsible for the companys innovation, long-term strategic planning, effective growth management and expansion of its lifestyle business.

Saurav Banerjee
Chief Financial Officer NDTV Group Saurav Banerjee has been with the organization for over 8 years now. A Chartered Accountant, Saurav has diverse experience in the field of accounting, auditing, financial management, business planning and corporate finance. He is a systems driven man and has implemented new financial systems and facilitated system integration in NDTV. His goal is to have a 'real time' decision support system within the group. Prior to joining NDTV, he was working with one of the leading global consultancy firms.

Shyatto Raha

Shyatto has been with NDTV for over 13 years and is an integral part of NDTVs strategic team that has helped develop new growth areas. He spearheaded the successful launches of NDTV Arabia in the Middle East and Astro Awani channels in Indonesia and Malaysia. In his role as CEO of NDTV Worldwide and Emerging Markets, group subsidiaries, Shyatto heads its business and operations and is responsible for the setting up of local news, current affairs and business channels targeting the local population, in emerging markets across the world.
