Description of the Business Italize Vitalize is an energy drink sole trader establishment owned by the researcher.

It will begin its journey on December 18, 2010. The business space will be rented by the owner. It will be located at Shop #6 Jabez Plaza, Savanna la Mar, Westmoreland. Business will be open for operation on Mondays to Saturdays 9:00am to 5:00pm. A total of 10 persons will be employed, inclusive of the owner. The company will achieve a level of production which not only satisfies domestic but somewhat surplus which can be exported. Italize Viltalize come in different flavours. Flavours may also be customized, but at an extra cost, this is to suit the needs of customers. This allows access to wider markets. Raw materials are imported from the fellow Caribbean Islands. Employees are paid for overtime, some are entitled to fringe benefits. Employees are entitled to all public holidays. Our mission statement states Best Quality from Italize Vitalize

Role of the Entrepreneur The entrepreneur will organize resources in such a way that it becomes useful to society. It will be ensured that employees are paid fair wages, safe working conditions with excellent ergonomics. The entrepreneur will make good decisions. Seek profit and create employment. Quality control will be maintained to ensure that production is at required standards and workers make sure that goods are produced within a good timing. The entrepreneur should also ensure that the rights of customers are protected. Functions of the Entrepreneur include: To ensure that the business makes a profit. The entrepreneur oversees all business transactions in order to promote the successful development of the business. To organise the various level of labour required. To make necessary changes in terms of growth.

Use of Technology In Italize Vitalize many equipment will be used to enhance the growth of the business. These include: Telephone to communicate with our suppliers to ensure goods are delivered on time to meet the needs of customers. The Management Information System (MIS) and Transaction Processing System (TPS) is going to be used to support the day to day running of business activities and making information available in different departments. A tractor will be used to enhance the effectiveness of the business to load and unload material on the truck. Fax Machine helps in sending out urgent messages as prompt as possible. Photocopier to make multiple copies of a document.

Potential for Growth Italize Vitalize will have the potential to grow internally, as there will be space for the physical expansion of the building. In doing so, more persons will be employed. As a result, production output may be increased. New equipment as well as new technology will be bought. Expectations will be made for Italize Vitalize to expand to new markets both local and abroad. Expectations will also be made to extend product line to enclose other natural juices as well as other natural produce.

Justification of Location Italize Vitalize will be loacated at Shop #6 Jabez Plaza, Savanna la Mar, Westmoreland. The owner chooses to locate the business in this area for reasons as follows: There is little or no competition there as Italize Vitalize is the only business of its type in that particular location. The business will be located in area where finding the necessary raw materials for production is easy. There distribution cost of raw material will be low as business is situated on good roads. Most of the potential employees reside near the area. The business will facilitate a good labour supply as only highly skilled and semi- skilled persons will be employed.

Labour Labour refers to the skills and occupation found on the labour market. This converts resources into goods and services required by people. In the operations of Italize Vitalize, persons will be required to supervise the machinery, program computers to operate equipment and deal with paper work as well as purchasing materials. Potential workers are required to fill out an application form as well as prepare for interview. The business has both skilled and semi-skilled workers. Semi-skilled workers may require little or no training. The owner will employ: One Sales representative who must require good communication skills and posses the quality of promoting product. One telephone operator who must acquire the knowledge of at least one foreign language plus English Language. He or She will also be used for dealing with questions and queries from customers One cashier for dealing with transaction of goods purchased and a daily report if money received. One sideman to load and unload truck. One mechanic to work on machinery when they have stopped working. One supervisor, who is also the owner, to ensure production is going as intended. Three immediate production workers. From the unskilled labour force one janitor for keeping the surroundings clean. Reason for choosing this type of labour is that it will be less expensive and more economical for the business. The more facilities and workers we acquire, the less money will be spent.

Sources of Capital Fixed Capital is lifelong equipment (tangible property) which are used in the production of goods and creation of wealth. Examples include: Building, Machinery, Land, Equipment Working Capital is capital in which continually change in quantity, total value or nature. Examples include: Cash, Bank, Stock, Debtors The source of the business fixed capital will be initiated through family inheritances of which is worth one million dollars (1 000 000). The source of the business working capital will be obtained through a bank overdraft given through NCB at the Savanna la Mar Branch. Cash in hand totalling one million dollars ($1 000 000) and Cash in bank of five million dollars ($5 000 000) was saved overtime. Some of which was received from overseas.

Level of Production Italize Vitalize will operate using the domestic and surplus level of production. Reason being the product will be used to benefit the nearby community as well as the country, but material will be imported to facilitate production.

Type of Production There are three basic categories of production namely: Primary Secondary Tertiary Italize Vitalize can be categorized in secondary production whereby this industry converts raw material obtained from primary production into the finish product.

Quality Control Measures Persons will be put in place to I. II. Ensure products are made to best quality by monitoring and supervising operations of the workers. Inspect/Taste different batches of food.

Linkages A linkage is when an industry depends upon another. There are two types of linkage; forward linkage and backward linkage. Italize Vitalize will form a linkage with a farmer, that is the backward linkage. It is in the owners intention to plant items needed in area nearer to work site to grow items needed for production. A benefit from this linkage is the availability of raw materials will be more accessible as the source would be owned by the business.

Government Regulations Business will be registered with the Government Registrar of Jamaica and the Bureau of Standards. The company will possess a license that will allow recipient of imports. Business will also have to pay tax as long as it is registered. Bureau of Standards will check to see that all products are in good condition. All inspection will be made by the health inspector to ensure workers have handlers permit and ensure the cleanliness of work stations.

Ethical Issues At Italize Vitalize our customers will be the number one priority. We will ensure that each employee must have proper and clean surroundings. We will ensure the proper disposal of garbage in bins and to ensure proper drainage systems. Insurance will be put in place to ensure the safety of all employees.
