NSW Combined High Schools Report

2011 NSWCHS Blues In a gala evening at ANZ Stadium last December, NSW Combined High Schools held their 2011 Awards Night. The best sports men and women in NSW Public Schools were on display and rewarded for the achievements with the most prestigious school sporting award the CHS Blue. Previous recipients of these awards include many World Champions and Olympic/Commonwealth Games representatives such as Ian Thorpe, Steve Waugh, Betty Cuthbert, Tim Cahill and Shane Gould. Lawn Bowls had two recipients for 2011 Kyle Johannes and Stephanie Hili. Both have had long and distinguished careers with multiple years of State representation. Kyle proved almost unbeatable in 2011 and at one stage held three consecutive Player of the Carnival trophies. Both won the State Knockout Triples with their school and have won medals at Australian Junior Championships. They also have won a swag of CHS medals between them. Both young players have been fantastic role models for their team mates and have been effective team leaders. On behalf of NSWCHS I would like to wish them the best in their future bowling careers in the adult ranks.

2012 NSWCHS Program NSW Combined High Schools will be running another full program of events throughout this year, ranging from school representation through to wearing the state shirt. Many events are organised at Regional level so your first port of call should be your schools Sports Organiser or Regional

Convener. The School Sport website http://www.sports.det.nsw.edu.au has information for each Region as well as for CHS events. Please do not hesitate to contact me as required and I look forward to seeing many of you at our events throughout the year. CHS Statewide Knockout Triples For many Regions, this will be the first event of the year. Schools should have already entered a side by September last year, however if you know your school has a side and willing teacher there may be an avenue to get a late entry. These events are organised at a Regional level and may be anything from straight KO to Round Robin Gala Days. The State Final 16 will be hosted by Kemps Creek BC on June 13-14. This will be the 26th year of this event. CHS Singles & Pairs Championships This event has been reduced by NSWCHS to 2 days only this year. Warilla will again play host on June 4-5. Regions will hold their own trials to select their representatives in Open Boys and Open Girls categories. Some Regions may hold a Singles and/or Pairs Championship, whilst others will double up their State Carnival selection day. Many of these selection days are very early in the year so see your Sports Organiser asap. A nomination form can be found at the CHS website and should be forwarded to your Regional Convener. CHS State Carnival Our most prestigious event moves into its 11th year and returns to its original venue, Warilla, after rotating through all ten Regions. On 7-9 August, each Region will bring their top eight players to the Carnival in a bid to be crowned the 2012 Champions. Players will also be vying for the 15 spots in the CHS Side selected from this event (the Girls Singles & Pairs also contribute towards the selection process). To play at this Carnival, players must be selected by their Region from the various events they hold for this purpose. Some run a trial day, others select from a Regional Championship or their Knockout Gala Days. CHS Exchange Event Players selected in the CHS side will compete at Port Macquarie on 11-13 September. These players will then be eligible to prove themselves worthy of a CHS Blue the highest sporting honour in NSW Schools. This event will comprise various 5-a-side teams representing NSWCHS and RNSWBA, whilst Shane Globits and Jamie Reynolds will be bringing three sides from various Academies. Teams will compete for the Neville Schwartz Shield, which is currently held by CHS. CHS Legends As part of our celebrations after 10 years of State Carnivals, Day 1 of the Warilla event in August will see some of the Legends of our event return for a couple of exhibition matches. Players will represent North, West, South or City in a 5-a-side format with a Final to be played on the indoor that night. Several State mens players are expected to be available for this exciting concept. Player profiles will be published in this column over the next few issues.
