Rolling Back to the End of World War II Spring 1945 Contributed by Rotarian Al McCombs

March 7, 1945 Bearing Rotary International asks all Rotary clubs to take an active part in the coming drive for the United Nations clothing collection in April. This is not to be confused with the clothing drive for Britain, which was recently made among the clubs of the 108th district. This drive is much broader as the need for serviceable clothing is worldwide. (The Chino Club collected 8 tons!) From the April 4, 1945 Bearing In compliance with the direction so the U. S. government prohibiting meetings of over 50 persons involved in the use of public transportation facilities and hotel sleeping accommodations, Rotary International has cancelled the 77 district conferences which were to be held this Spring. From the June 27, 1945 Bearing, The wrap-up wrote: We began the year with twenty-six members. The attendance for eleven months averaged 93.85, a slight gain over the last three years. Due to one cause of another, the number of visiting Rotarians dropped from 292, last years total, to 252. From nearby clubs, 73 member visitors cam from Ontario, 62 from Pomona, and 34 from Claremont. For the first time in history we came to the end of the fiscal year with all membership dues paid. $448.60 was collected in fines during the year. The year-end meeting was held at the Pomona Valley Country Club (which the Los Serranos Club was called then). The agenda included reports of the years activities, debunking the old president (mens store owner, Howard Cattle) and installing the new one (Edison manager Art Younkin).
