Glacier Guides Ice-Training Course Schedule 2012

Its that time again! The Arctic Family Glacier Guides Training Course is a 5 day prep course for candidates wanting to guide on the glacier tongues. The course is about 45 hour in total and we expect candidates to have basic knowledge or rope work, mountaineering, hiking, rock- and ice-climbing, glacier hiking and mountain rescue. Attached to the documents is the GG Guide Handbook that include all the techniques needed to successfully prepare for the days ahead. Please note - this document and all other documents associated with this course are for your eyes only. The following schedule is a rough outline of the days with subjects of each day listed. Each day has a lecture component that will be held inside at Fagurhlsmri Base Camp. Logistics: We will meet at Fiskisl (Arctic storage space) on the evening of April 16th at 19:00 with all our gear (see gear list attached). From there we will drive our bus East to Fagurhlsmri approx 4 hours, we will make a short dinner stop on the drive. If you have any complications regarding you needing to leave early you will have to arrange your own transport. We will return to Reykjavk on the bus late evening on the 21st of April. Food: Candidates shop their own food/lunch/snacks for the days, there are cooking facilities at Fagurhlsmri. We will be about 15 students in total so we suggest you arrange dinners in groups (see below) and cook for one night each group for everyone, please account for the 5 instructors as well. (those of you coming from abroad/out of town ask your group partners to shop group dinners for you and bring cash to refund or make arrangements quickly, the top person on each list is in charge that this gets done) Due to the nature of our business we should all be ready to change the outline of the days on short notice to make the best use of our days.
