CONTAMOS COM USTED

Your Excellency, I am dismayed about the 18-month prison sentence of the conscientious objector Moon Myung-jin for refusing to undertake compulsory military service. An activist and volunteer for War Resisters International in the UK and World Without War in South Korea, he objects to military service because of his opposition to war. As of November 2011, there were over 790 conscientious objectors in prison in South Korea. There is no provision in South Korean law for conscientious objectors to do alternative civilian service. I call on the authorities to immediate and unconditionally release Moon Myung-jin and ensure that he is exempt from any further military service orders. I also urge Your Excellency to clear the criminal records of Moon Myung-jin and of all other conscientious objectors in South Korea, and adequately compensate them for the time in prison. Sincerely,

Your Excellency, I am dismayed with the arrest on 30 March 2011 in Bahrain of the twenty-year-old student Aayat Alqormozi for reciting poems she wrote criticizing the King and the Prime Minister. Her legal status remains uncertain and the charges against her have not been dropped and she was prevented from returning to Bahrain University to complete her studies. I urge the authorities to ensure that Aayat Alqormozis conviction is rescinded and any charges against her are dropped. I also urge Your Excellency to investigate her allegations of torture and other ill-treatment in detention, to make public the results of the investigation and bring those responsible to justice. Finally, I urge you to allow Aayat to continue her studies and to respect the rights to freedom of expression, movement and assembly in Bahrain, including the right to peaceful protest. Sincerely,

To Peter Voser, Chief Executive Officer, Royal Dutch Shell, We the undersigned write to express our concern about the ongoing impact of oil pollution on economic, social and cultural rights in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. We urge you to acknowledge Shells responsibility for the impacts of oil pollution in the Niger Delta, and we call on the company to: Contribute the full $1 billion identified by UNEP as the start-up amount needed to establish an independent fund to clean up pollution in Ogoniland. Carry out a comprehensive clean-up of oil pollution and environmental damage in Bodo and all other affected sites, in consultation with local communities. Support the need for further assessment of oil pollution across the wider oilproducing Niger Delta region. Pay fair and adequate compensation to all affected communities.

Your Excellency, I am dismayed with the imprisonment and sentence of the journalist, human rights defender and Secretary General of the Graduates Association, Ahmad Zeidabadi, arrested on 21 June 2009. Amnesty International believes he is a prisoner of conscience, held solely for peacefully exercising his rights to freedom of expression and association. Following other previous appeals, I now urge the authorities to unconditionally and immediately release Ahmad Zeidabadi. Meanwhile, I ask Your Excellency to provide the prisoner with any medical care needed and that he is protected from torture and ill-treatment. Lastly, I urge Your Excellency to investigate the reports that the prisoner was tortured in detention and that those responsible can be brought to justice. Sincerely,
