MODE OF ACTION
Inhibits cell wall synthesis promoting osmotic instability usually bactericidal

INDICATION CONTRAINDICA TION


Lower respiratory tract infections, UTIs due to E. coli/klelbsiella, Septicemia, Meningitis due to S. pneumonae, bone joint infection Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to drug or other cephalosporin. Use cautiously in patients hypersensitive to penicillin because of possibility of crosssensitivity with other beta lactam antibiotics

SIDE EFFECTS
Diarrhea/loose stools, N&V, abdominal pain

NURSING RESPONSIBILI TITES


If first time given, use the clients weight to determine the dose otherwise the clients age. Before giving dug. ask patient if she is allegic to penicillin or cephalosporin. Obtain specimen for culture and sensitivity tests before giving first dose. absorption of oral drug is induced. Shake before each use, inject deep to large muscle mass.

ADVERSE EFFECT: hemolytic anemia, thrombocytope nia, transient neutropenia, eosinophilia

For direct intermittent IV, slowly inject drug over 3-5 min, or give tubing of other Iv SOLUTIONS. Do not add Cufuroxime solutions to solutions of aminoglycosid es; if both required, give separately. Prior To reconstitution, protect the drug from light.
