ME3102 GENERAL GUDELINES FOR FINAL DESIGN REPORT

(Note: This is ONLY serving as a guide not a mandatory format.) The main objective of this final report is to make it as re-producible and complete report for technical and non-technical professionals to evaluate the proposal for product development. It can be an enhanced report based on ME3101 report but not a duplicated one. The design solutions will be presented in report form and be accompanied by appropriate calculations, tables, diagrams, etc., including all relevant design and manufacturing information. Concept modelling is to be presented, where appropriate. 1. Introduction (background, survey, problem definition and specifications, etc.) 2. Description of overall design (include an assembly drawing and parts list in this section) and its major subassemblies. Feasibility study Conceptual design Embodiment design - design technical calculations and material selection Detail design for manufacture 3. Improved/final design and prototyping evaluations Description of components and subassemblies, including Design synthesis: Application of appropriate engineering analysis to determine critical dimensions and operating conditions. In the main body of the report, calculations are not usually reported in detail. State the main assumptions, the method of solution and the results. The detailed calculations, computer simulations, etc. can be presented in an appendix. Detail design, including justification of material selection and sizing of manufactured parts and selection of purchased components. Design analysis, showing design will meet specifications Prototyping/fabrication process and final evaluations. 4. Cost estimate for manufacturing the product (not the prototype) including assembly and manufacturing costs 5 Discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of the design.

6. Conclusions, including recommendations for future design work References, listing all books, websites and other sources consulted for design information Appendices o Detailed calculations for engineering analysis o Detail CAD or manual drawings(if readable) for all parts to be manufactured (fully dimensioned w/ appropriate tolerances, surface finishes, etc.) One drawing should be included per manufactured part, no matter how simple. 1

o Specification sheets or list of specifications for all purchased components (except fasteners)

*Excluding the Appendices, TOTAL PAGES preferred not more than 50 pages (in double-space, single-column and 12-pt. Times Roman font with proper headings and sub-headings ).
