One of the things that struck me with Gods establishment of a new and eternal covenant is the thought of how much God respects our human freedom. Never did He force Himself into us but patiently, through our human imperfections, He shaped and reshaped us by forgiving us and letting us start anew. Personally for me, this is the meaning of the two important points of Jesus words on this Sundays Gospel. First: a grain of wheat must die if it is to bring fruit. The fruit is the conversion of Jews and Gentiles. Why only after His death? Because the death of Jesus was caused by the imperfections of the individuals and of society. Just as the grain of wheat is cracked open by the soil and moisture and a new life sprouts, so also with Jesus. The soil and moisture are our imperfections and sinfulness. The fruits will be our renewal and maturity in faith and charity. Second: and only by being lifted up will Christ draw all to Himself. Jesus mentioned this first in John 3:14 just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, referring to Numbers 21:8. This reminds us of the reality of sin and of our sinfulness. Israel sinned against God when they mistrusted Him and kept on complaining. Thats when God punished them by sending them snakes, but God prepared all of us of what the greatest that is to come: that which is prefigured of the lifted up bronze serpent, Jesus crucified! Moreover, we celebrate and remember this lifting up and drawing us up to Himself when His sacramental body, the Eucharist is lifted up at mass. May the sacrifice of Jesus renew us and let us grow in our faith and love for God and one another! God bless you all! Fr. Roger ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Just a reminder that the VIRTUS training, is this Sunday, March 25 th, from 1PM to 4PM at the St. Michael hall. The Annunciation This week, March 25 is the date, we celebrate the annunciation of Our Lord, the day that the Son of God was made Man in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary and announced to her by the Angel Gabriel. When Mary said, Be is done unto me, Christ was in the world. How inseparably associated are Annunciation Day and Christmas Day--nine months of inexpressible anticipation! The incarnation is commemorated daily by saying The Angelus at 6:00am, at 12:00pm and 6:00pm usually accompanied by the ringing of the church bells. God was united to human nature in Marys womb, which some Church scholars call the first Holy Communion.

Father Reinkemeyers Funeral Helen and I made the journey to Wichita last Monday to attend the funeral of Fr. John Reinkemeyer, who passed away on March 15.
