What do the grades mean in GCSE Geography?

ATTAINMENT What is my level of understanding? Excellent: I communicate very well and have shown a very high level of k & u and the ability to use a variety of case studies, from a variety of scales, & use key terms to support my answers. I have thought carefully about the geographical theories involved & can understand how they are influenced A by human & physical processes. I can also appreciate the key role sustainable development has upon the planning & management of environments & resources. I can understand & evaluate the values & attitudes of people involved. I can support my answers with geographical investigation; finding evidence from a variety of sources, skills & techniques to reach substantiated conclusions.
Very good: I can communicate well and have a high level of k & u and am developing my level of explanation & evidence by using some case studies (from a range of scales) and key terms. I am aware of the geographical theories involved and appreciate how they are influenced by human & physical processes. I can appreciate the role sustainable development has upon the planning & B management of environments & resources. I can understand the values & attitudes of people involved and how it may affect decisions made. I can support my answers with geographical investigation from a range of sources, skills & techniques to reach valid conclusions. Good: I can communicate clearly and have a good level of k & u. I am describing and sometimes explaining my answers with case studies (from a variety of scales) & key terms. I can use my knowledge & understanding to analyse the human and physical contexts studied and understand how these processes contribute to the development of geographical patterns and characteristics. I C appreciate that in some cases sustainable development can affect the planning & management of environments & resources. I can understand the values & attitudes of people involved. I can support my answers with geographical investigation; identify relevant questions and follow effective sequences of investigation using a range of sources, skills & techniques to reach plausible conclusions. Some understanding: I can communicate through linked statements and recall basic information about places, locations and environments at more than 1 scale. I can simply understand the geographical theories studied and understand the simple human & physical processes that lead to this. I have some awareness of peoples attitudes & values and how it can affect decisions made. I D can undertake geographical investigation; identifying some relevant questions, collecting & recording evidence from some different sources, skills & techniques to reach basic conclusions. You need to try & add more detail to your answer, using more of the key terms & case studies we have studied. Some simple understanding: I can recall basic information about the places, locations & environments studied. Understand some of the simple geographical ideas studied in a particular context and recognise how human & physical processes contribute to them. I have some awareness of peoples E attitudes & values. I can undertake geographical investigation; collecting & recording geographical evidence and drawing simple maps & diagrams. I can communicate through brief statements using some basic geographical terminology. You need to try & use more of the key terms & case studies we have studied.
